BABY BEANIE – EASY CROCHET

Really any baby patterns are fine, and you can crochet in any wool you like, all sizes and shapes welcome!

But, please use acrylic wool, as the hats will have to be washed at very high temperatures.

SIZES hat circumference hat length Yarn

1 - Preemie 1-2 lbs 20-22cm 8-9cm 10g

2 - Preemie 2-3 lbs 22-26cm 9-10.5cm 10g

3 - Preemie 3-5 lbs 26-31cm 10-13cm 15g

4 - Newborn 6-8 lbs 30-32cm 13-16 cm 20g

MATERIALS

The pattern uses Sirdar Snuggly Dk but any DK yarn, the amounts required may vary for different yarns.

You will also need a 3.5mm crochet hook.

TENSION

Approximately 20htr sts to 10cm, using a 3.50mm hook.

ABBREVIATIONS

ss slip stitch, htr half treble crochet, dc double crochet, ch chain.

NOTES

The beanies are made all in one piece, worked in rounds.

The hat circumference is slightly less than the actual head circumference in order to make the hat fit snug.

PATTERN

Size 1

Make a loop using the magic loop method.

Round 1 create 8htr into the centre of the magic loop, then pull the tail of the yarn tight to close the centre hole, join the round with a ss into the top of the first htr at the start of the round. Place a stitch marker here if needed and move up with each round completed to mark the beginning of each round.

Round 2 2ch (counts as 1htr), 1htr into same place, 2 htr into each of the sts of previous round, join the round with a ss. (16sts)

Round 3 2ch (counts as 1htr), 2 htr into the next st, *1htr in the next st, 2 htr into the next st, repeat from * to end of round, join the round with a ss. (24sts)

Round 4 2ch (counts as 1htr), 1htr into next st, 2 htr into next st, *1htr into each of next 2sts, 2 htr into next st, rep from * to end of round, join the round with a ss. (32sts)

Round 5 2ch (counts as 1htr), 1htr into next 2sts, 2 htr into next st, *1htr into each of next 3sts, 2 htr into next st, rep from * to end of round, join the round with a ss. (40sts)

Round 6 2ch (counts as 1htr), 1htr into each st to the end, join the round with a ss. (40sts)

Repeat Round 6 a further 8 times.

Last Round reverse your work so the you are working in the opposite direction, then 1dc into each st to end of round, join the round with a ss, fasten off, sew in the ends.

Size 2

Work as for size 1 until the end of Round 5. (40sts)

Round 6 2ch, (counts as 1htr), 1htr into next 3sts, 2 htr into next st, *1htr into each of next 4sts, 2 htr into next st, rep from * to end of round, join the round with a ss. (48sts)

Round 7 2ch (counts as 1htr), 1htr into each st to the end, join the round with a ss. (48sts)

Repeat Round 7 a further 9 times.

Last Round reverse your work so the you are working in the opposite direction, then 1dc in each st to end of round, join the round with a ss, fasten off, sew in the ends.

Size 3

Work as for size 1 until the end of Round 5. (40sts)

Round 6 2ch, (counts as 1htr), 1htr into next 3sts, 2 htr into next st, *1htr into each of next 4sts, 2 htr into next st, rep from * to end of round, join the round with a ss. (48sts)

Round 7 2ch, (counts as 1htr), 1htr into next 4sts, 2 htr into next st, *1htr into each of next 5sts, 2 htr into next st, rep from * to end of round, join the round with a ss. (56sts)

Round 8 2ch (counts as 1htr), 1htr into each st to the end, join the round with a ss. (56sts)

Repeat Round 8 a further 10 times.

Last Round reverse your work so the you are working in the opposite direction, then 1dc in each st to end of round, join the round with a ss, fasten off, sew in the ends.

Size 4

Round 6 2ch, (counts as 1htr), 1htr into next 3sts, 2 htr into next st, *1htr into each of next 4sts, 2 htr into next st, rep from * to end of round, join the round with a ss. (52sts)

Round 7 2ch, (counts as 1htr), 1htr into next 4sts, 2 htr into next st, *1htr into each of next 5sts, 2 htr into next st, rep from * to end of round, join the round with a ss. (60sts)

Round 8 2ch (counts as 1htr), 1htr into each st to the end, join the round with a ss. (60sts)

Repeat Round 8 a further 12 times.

Last Round reverse your work so the you are working in the opposite direction, then 1dc in each st to end of round, join the round with a ss, fasten off, sew in the ends.
