11.  Aims of the Programme
To provide a programme that has a vocationally orientated curriculum which utilises different domains of knowledge to understand the practice of business management, the economy and the business environment.
To provide learning experience which students find challenging and stimulating and which enables them to enhance their career potential in business and management and employability through the development of their own learning capabilities.
To provide a context in which student engagement, independent thinking and critical awareness is enhanced allowing a richer appreciation of the complexities of contemporary business management to equip graduates to become effective global citizens.
To encourage engagement in business/management research in general
12.  Learning Outcomes, Teaching, Learning and Assessment Methods
A. Knowledge and Understanding
An ability to:
A1. demonstrate a critical awareness of concepts and principles underpinning organisations, the business environment in which they operate and their management.
A2. demonstrate the ability to apply business and management concepts in a variety of problem solving context drawing appropriate conclusions
A3. evaluate, plan and communicate responses to organisational problems and issues
A4. critically appraise strategy and policy development within the changing business context
A5. Demonstrate strategic knowledge of business enterprise, social responsibility and digital business.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Particular emphasis is placed on active learning and student engagement. Students will participate in a blended learning approach with a mixture of online distance learning and face to face taught modules supported by a range of teaching and learning methods. Acquisition of core knowledge and understanding (A1–A5) is mainly from structured reading (books, online and academic journals), formative exercises, discussions, online postings, trips, live or ‘real world’ projects, virtual forums, lectures, seminars and workshops, that will encourage formal, informal independent and social learning.
Assessment methods
For outcomes A1-A5 a variety of assessments are used including coursework, presentations including online, dissertations and projects, viva’s, examinations and learning portfolios.

B3. demonstrate an awareness of commercial acumen and enterprise
B4. critically evaluate the nature and role of operational and strategic techniques within business and other organisations

Teaching and Learning Methods
Subject-specific theories, models and methodologies will be explained via lectures, tutorials, self-study, structured tasks and assignments, research, project work and online material. Learners will apply this knowledge to appropriate cases, exercises, and related activities and demonstrate ideas in structured and unstructured discussions.
Assessment methods
For outcomes B1-B5 a variety of assessments are used including essay-type questions, case studies, reports, self-assessments, tests and problem solving exercises, in addition to written coursework projects, research proposals and presentations, including online.
C. Thinking Skills
An ability to:
C1. select, collate, analyse and synthesise information from a range of sources
C2. interpret and critically review theoretical, research and experiential data
C3. critically and creatively relate relevant conceptual material to evidence from practical applications and developments
C4. plan and conduct individual research projects and communicate the outcomes.
C5. develop an awareness of interpersonal skills
Teaching and Learning Methods
For learning outcomes C1 – C5, critical perspectives and case study problem examples will be used. This will be supported by activities in which students have the opportunity to apply principles and perspectives, and to analyse and solve problems through the use of case studies, discussion (online and face to face) and self-report inventories.
Assessment methods
For outcomes C1-C5 a variety of assessments are used including essay-type questions, case studies, reports, self-assessments, quizzes and problem solving exercises, in addition to written coursework projects, research proposals and online presentation.

Experiential learning and learner-centred activities such as presentations, together with encouraging both peer self-analysis and evaluation will enable continuous personal and professional development.

15. Personal Development Planning / BU3415 Contemporary Issues in Business
Personal Development Planning exists as an informal strand of the programme predominantly during the tutorial process in which the student’s ability to reflect upon his/her skills base and plan for future personal development is developed, practiced and monitored. There will be a strong focus on developing the individual employability and lifelong learning skills. The top up builds on the strong PDP executed in Levels 4 and 5 through the Learning from Work modules.

16. Admissions criteria
Programme Specifications include minimum entry requirements, including academic qualifications, together with appropriate experience and skills required for entry to study. These criteria may be expressed as a range rather than a specific grade. Amendments to entry requirements may have been made after these documents were published and you should consult the University’s website for the most up to date information.
