ATRSEA meetings are held the third Tuesday of the month September-December and February-May at 11:00 at The Deer Cove Event Center.

Some of the interesting and outstanding programs the members enjoyed were:

  • Sharron Schmitt and her registered Pet Partner therapy dog, Ella, who has been trained for 7 years. Ella is 9 years old and Sharron adopted her fromRecue from Golden Retriever Rescue of North Texas when Ella was 11 months old. Sharron told of her experiences with Ella and her other therapy dogs. She takes the dogs to three local elementary schools, Azle Manor, and Cook Children’s Hospital.Therapy Dogs is a heartwarming program that brings the joys of animal companionship to those who need it most. Sharron is also a member of Friends of Golden Retriever Rescue.

  • Dr. Lea, superintendent, Azle ISD and Dr. Suzanne Murr, Director of Career and Technical Education Azle High School, led a tour of the new facilities at Azle High School.
  • Todd Urbanek, SportsCare Liaison for Baylor Scott and White, gave the members information about Health and Nutrition Tips for the Golden Years.
  • Gerry Lewis, inspired the members with his music and thoughts about Christmas.
  • Brenda Manning Ornelas, an Azle graduate, Brenda Ornelas, Founder/CEO, Heather's Old Skool Village. A place where students can work on life skills and be successful.

Volunteer chairman, Kathy Hufstedler reported that 58 members turned in over 26,000 volunteer hours in 2015.

Peggy Helm, 2nd Vice President,thanked the Azle Retired School Employees for their generosity ingiving - contributing to a successful book collection. ATRSEA collected 263 books at the December meeting. The members were asked to bring two children's books. The books were donated to Azle High School for the students to use in the "Hanging with the Hornets" program. These books are distributed to local elementary students. Dr. Suzanne Murr said "I am overwhelmed with the generous donation."

President, Dannie Davis, volunteered at the Charity Golf Tournament in Azle, September 19, 2015.

Carol Cudd, Dannie Davis and Cat Schlueter volunteered at the charity golf tournament.They registered the teams as they arrived. All proceeds went to charity.

Sue Wall, Shara Fox, and Peggy Helmoperated the vendor table at the Azle ISD Back-to-School convocation for ATRSEA. The ladies handed out brochures for ATRSEA and answered questions. There also was a raffle.

Installation of officers will take place at the May meeting.
