Graduate Student Intern

Metropolitan Education Commission - Regional College Access Center
The UA Graduate Student Intern will work closely with the Regional College Access Center (RCAC) Coordinator and under the direction of the MEC’s Executive Director, to assist with all aspects of the newly created RCAC. Responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to those outlined below:
  1. Conduct research on college access opportunities (local and nationally).
  2. Coordinate and disseminate information about college access services to parents, students and community groups both within and outside the school setting.
  3. Meet with students and parents in person or by telephone to provide information regarding college access services available locally or nationally.
  4. Identify Pima County providers of college access services and develop descriptions of services provided.
  5. Prepare and distribute college and career inventories to providers to gather information on local activities, programs and events.
  6. Work closely with the RCAC coordinator, website developer and program evaluator to collect program data, provide status reports and participate in planning for program enhancements.
  7. Assist with provider meetings and events as needed.
  8. Assist with program marketing
Intern Criteria: Graduate level, Bilingual (English/Spanish Speaking and Writing) , Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
Semesters: Fall 2008 and Spring 2009
Business Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Occasional evening and Saturday appointments with students and parents may be requested.

Undergraduate Intern
AWARDED TO: Zayoni Torres, Elementary Education
The Sahuaro Girl Scout Council is kindly requesting to host an undergraduate student as an intern in our organization for the Fall 2008 semester. The intern will work with the community program coordinator and program specialists in the area of educational programming and program assessment. The intern will gain experience providing program for girls from diverse backgrounds and group management, team work, communication and leadership skills. Tasks include:
  • Assessing how afterschool and community programs meet girl, school, and community needs
  • Incorporating the Girl Scout leadership model into educational programming to develop leadership skills in girls
  • Identifying the 15 outcomes indicating the development of leadership skills
  • Assisting in the development of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), literacy, financial literacy, and healthy lifestyle programs to meet cultural and community needs
  • Facilitating programs for girls in afterschool or community settings
  • Assessing results of programs

Undergraduate Intern
AWARDED TO: John G. Anderson, Elementary Education
Tucson’s Regional Science Center is seeking an intern to assist in refurbishing inquiry kit materials checked out to teachers throughout Tucson.. This includes many different facets of materials management and development. Light maintenance of the Center is included as are completing simple clerical duties such as filing, copying, and maintaining teacher guides and student handouts. The internship provides opportunities to develop skills of time and materials management, record-keeping systems for materials management, and collegial workplace skills as most assignments are completed with a team.
The Regional Science Center develops, maintains, and provides materials for teaching inquiry-based science in Tucson Unified School District, Sunnyside Unified School District, Flowing Wells School District, and several Charter Schools in the area. These kit materials provide resources for classroom teachers to implement an inquiry-based, hands-on science curriculum for students in grades K-8.
Interns would need to have transportation to the site or be willing to participate in carpooling or biking to the facility.

Business Hours: 9am-5pm. Schedules can be flexible as the Center works on a 40-hour work week.

Undergraduate AND Graduate Intern

Arizona History Museum, the main branch of the Arizona Historical Society, is looking for an undergraduate or graduate intern to assist in the Education and Public Outreach Division. Interns will help coordinate the regional National History Day competition, a program where students submit papers, give presentations, or submit exhibits on a specific history theme. Interns will also assist in preparations for two teacher workshops and an onsite Pima Community College history course.

Undergraduate Intern

The Sunnyside Unified School District Language Acquisition and Development Center is looking for an undergraduate intern who will assist with assessment of English Language Learners through administering the AZELLA. Training will be provided. In addition, the intern will help in the processing of AZELLA tests for shipment to Pearson Learning for scoring.

Graduate Intern

The Sunnyside Unified School District Federal Programs Center is looking for a graduate Intern who will work in the capacity of program evaluation, gathering data on after-school and extended year program s funded through federal Title I and state Compensatory Education grants. Program evaluation will include data gathering, data analysis, and report narratives.
