Eligibility

Only persons who can demonstrate a lawful right to work in Brazil will be considered for this vacancy. The Australian Embassy is unable to sponsor candidates for work visas and all relocation costs are at the expense of the officer, including travel, personal effects and accommodation in Brasilia.

Position Overview

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas. The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

The Driverprovides driving services to transport the Ambassador and other Embassy staff members within Brasilia and surrounding areas.The position reports to the Senior Administrative Officer (SAO)and will work closely with Australian diplomats as well as other locally engaged staff in the administrative section of the Embassy in Brasilia.

Applicants must have a valid driver’s vehicle licence and must be able to undertake regular overtime when driving for the Australian Embassy.

Position Description

The key responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

Drive the Ambassador, Embassy staff and visitors as required

Provide advice on best travel routes

Maintain official vehicles and arrange regular servicing, maintenance, repairs, cleaning, refuelling and spot checks

Maintain accurate vehicle records, including running sheets, insurance, registration and fuel purchases

Perform general office duties, including administrative and procurement tasks, as required

Relieve receptionist as required

Collect and deliver mail or other correspondence as required

Qualifications/Experience

  • Possession of a valid driver’s licence.
  • A proven safety record.
  • Extensive knowledge of road/traffic systems in Brasilia and surrounding regions.
  • An ability to read maps, use GPS equipment and follow directions.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and undertake overtime as required.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English would be an advantage.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and be discreet.

Selection Criteria

  1. Strong driving skills, safety record and knowledge of venues and streets and driving conditions in and around Brasilia.
  1. Ability to work productively and flexibly in a team, take initiative, set priorities, respond to challenges and adapt to different work environments.
  1. Developed written and oral communication skills in English and Portuguese. Ability to informally interpret and translate as required.
  1. Strong organisation skills including the ability to assist in the coordination of transport programs for Embassy staff and visitors.
