Welcome to Austin Middle School. You are now an Austin Eagle. Sixth grade is going to be an exciting year. Be prepared to study and learn a lot.
My name is Mrs. Halleck. I have been married for almost 26 years to my husband Randy and he works for Delta Airlines. We have three daughters. Meredith is a senior at the University of Georgia. She is studying Dietetics and Nutrition and is currently an intern for the football team. She works for Chick-fil- A in Athens and is getting married next spring. Melissa is a recent graduate of Hiram High and will be a freshman at Georgia Highlands. She was a four year member of the marching band and works at Chick-fil-A in Hiram. Mandy is a sophmore at Hiram and also participates in the marching band, swim team and soccer team. We are all very involved in our church.
All students will be issued an agenda. This is one of the main sources of information, whereby you may find information concerning district and school expectations. The agenda will be used by the students to list assignments, project due dates and upcoming tests or quizzes. The agenda is also used as a restroom, breakfast and hall pass. Please check your child’s agenda and each teacher’s website for more information. Sixth grade students are given a weekly newsletter where more general information concerning each class can be found.
The opening of school packet will be sent home with your child the first or second day of school. Before lockers can be issued, the $5.00 service fee must be paid and all of the opening of school pages must be completed, signed and returned. This fee covers several items including envelopes, postage and the maintenance of lockers. Students will be assigned lockers on a first-come, first-serve basis.
I will be teaching Earth Science this year. Lessons are geared toward inquiry learning, where I guide students as they discover the answers. Most projects are completed in the classroom, however, there will be some assignments that must be completed at home.
I will be using REMIND in order to keep you informed. Please take the paper that lists the instructions for how to sign up. You may receive reminders via email or text.

The middle school years can be challenging. It is very important that you stay involved and make your child’s education a priority. Know who their friends are and what they are doing. I am very excited to begin this year and look forward to working with you in the student-parent-teacher partnership.
