2015-2016 ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Thru Mid-May, 2016

  • Increased LEAP activities led by co-chairs, Sean Skellenger and Brian Mueller (LEAP is Leaders Emerging in the Accounting Profession; younger/newer CPAs)
  • Moved the CFO/Controller’s Conference offsite and doubled the attendance
  • 291 volunteer hours primarily with the Capital Area Food Bank but also Coats for Kids, Safeplace, Turkey Trot, teaching Non-Profit Board essentials to community Board members and staff
  • Exceeded our dues budget by nearly $8,000
  • Redesigned chapter website
  • Updated Bylaws
  • Record number of scholarship applications received (45); 10 scholarships awarded for $10,500
  • Full house of students and candidates at the Application of Intent Workshop in April – Becker representative gave presentation on CPA exam strategies and Donna Hiller from the TSBPA gave a presentation on the procedure to apply for the exam, eligibility for the exam, etc.
  • Very well attended Diversity & Inclusiveness Event in June, 2015, celebrating members’ various ethnic backgrounds. Everyone brought a food item from their country of origin, had attendees mark the world map with their country and also displayed flags of the countries represented. The chapter provided beer and wine from around the world.
  • Celebrated the diversity of the profession by having members post selfies to the chapter’s Facebook page
  • Non-Profit Board Training offered 3 times this year to a packed room (with waiting list)
  • Successful PAC Week (raised over $4200) – fundraising for the CPA-PAC – included a matching gift program and an evening event at Baby A’s
  • B&I members enjoyed backstage tours of the Austin City Limits venue and also a tour of the Circuit of the Americas Track
  • Approved $10 fee for new Lifetime Members (following TSCPA’s lead)
  • Over $21K raised for scholarships this year via various fundraisers
  • Participated in career fairs at the college and high school level (ACC, Stony Point HS,Region XIII Education Service Center Annual Career Symposium, McNeil HS, UT Masters in Professional Accounting)
