Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome back to all our Mossburn School families. From all of the staff - we hope you have all had a fantastic, restful, fun-packed break and are ready to come to school energised, excited and ready for all the exciting learning opportunities that will be on offer this year.

New to School: Welcome to Luca Duthie who has started in Room 1 and Miss Rachel Peters our new principal.

Board News: Once again our BOT has made a commitment to continue the level of support staff within the school; 38+ hours for Teacher Aide support and admin/office 20+ hours. This is fantastic! Our annual budget also allows us to manage the school well, where our children and staff can all benefit – thank you to our on-going supportive Board.

There will be several projects (property) and initiatives (learning/professional development) occurring throughout the year and I will keep you informed as we go.

Staff for 2017:

Room 1: Mrs Tanya Day, Room 2: Mrs Paula Marrah and Room 3: Mrs Chantal McClean & Miss Marie McCarthy

Family BBQ: This Friday we will be holding a BBQ to welcome Miss Peters to Mossburn School. Bread and sausages will be suppled for a 12.30 lunch. Please bring a pot luck salad to share as well as cutlery and plates for yourselves. You are invited to stay for assembly at 1.30pm and a fun swim. It would be great if we could have adults to help supervise the swimming. See you there!

Flower Show: The annual Flower Show is on Friday 17th Feb – see below for details. Students will need to bring flowers to create sand saucers. Please send along extra flowers if you have them.

Waitangi Day: Reminder: No school on Monday 6th February

Parent Teacher Interviews: Will be held Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st of February. A letter and booking form will be sent our shortly.

Room 2 with Mrs Marrah and Teresa

Room 3 with Mrs McClean and Jan

Media Coverage: As some of the community may be aware, yesterday the NZ Herald posted an online article about Mossburn School and its use of the TRUMP acronym. Due to the US elections, Donald Trump and anything associated with him, is now very high profile and hence a minor mention of his previous work on The Apprentice has drawn attention. The school had already made a commitment, prior to the term starting, to look for a new acronym to help our children remember the very important Key Competencies. We're aiming to have this ready for the start of Term Two and look forward to sharing it with you and the children.
