CHESHIRE, Connecticut: On Thursday, November 4, Nelson Hall theatre in Cheshire will host the world premiere of Sentimental Journey: A Tribute to Doris Day with a one-night showcase performance at 7:30pm.

Grammy-award winning artist, Billy Stritch, will sing the songs of the beloved Doris Day, interspersed with the engaging storytelling of author Tom Santopietro as he shares excerpts from his book, “Considering Doris Day.”

The New York Times Editor’s Choice book examines the many facets of Doris Day’s life that crafted her career, her iconic stardom , and the public misconceptions of America’s favorite Girl Next Door. Santopietro reveals the true Doris Day, her underplayed talents and her passionate convictions.

Sentimental Journey follows a similar format to Santopietro’s previous show, The Best Is Yet To Come, songs and stories of Frank Sinatra, which he also performed at Nelson Hall last spring, along with cabaret heartthrob, Tony Desare. The Sinatra tribute was a sellout and the show has continued to tour cross-country.

Santopietro hopes the Doris Day show has as great an appeal, considering she was the number one selling female artist of all time in the United States. To quote his book, “Doris Day embodied the all-encompassing post-World War II American will to happiness… the flesh and blood personification of what came to be known as “The American Century.””

Bill Stritch, who will be performing some classics and some surprises from Day’s repertoire, has a Grammy under his belt for the composition of the 1994 country hit, “Does He Love You,” sung by Reba McIntire and Linda Davis. He currently tours with Liza Minelli as Musical Director, in addition to producing music of his own.

Cozy and inviting, the Nelson Hall theatre should provide the perfect ambiance for an intimate ‘sentimental journey’ with the audience.
