PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Department of Engineering Technologies of Texas Southern University in collaboration with UNITE-JETS will be hosting its Fifth AnnualSummer Pre-College Engineering Program. Summer Program is scheduled for Four Weeks, June 13th –July 8th2011, Monday-Thursday 9am-3pm, Friday 9am-1:30pm. The program is designed to provide academic instruction, hands-on-activities and mentorship to rising 9-12th graders of the middle and high schools within Houston Metropolitan Area. It is geared towards ensuring that at least 80% of its participants have the proficiency in Mathematics and Science required for high school completion and college entry. Our secondary goal is to create a long lasting relationship with our participants and partnering schools.

The program incorporates classroom instruction, hands-on activities, field trips and career counseling sessions. Application is FREE. Lunches will be provided at NO COST to participants. The program will maintain a line of communication with participants and their parents and with partnering schools in the post-program period so it can follow-up on participants’ academic progress.

Participants will be welcomed to visit the campus and our department in particular on a at – need basis. It is our hope that this will psychologically prepare and gear them towards seeking enrollment in science and technology programs at our college sometime in the near future. Participants will be informed and invited to take part in future academic events organized by our department and the college at large.
