Athletic Training Student Aide Guidelines and Permission Form

When committing yourself as an Athletic Training Student Aide (ATSA) you must abide by the following guidelines. Once you have been accepted by the Head Athletic Trainer to be a part of the Athletic Training staff, any violation of these guidelines could be subject to dismissal from the Athletic Training Student Aide Program.

Guidelines:

1.  You must always conduct yourself in a professional manner. You are representing Woodgrove High School and the Athletic Training Staff.

2.  Do not use inappropriate language.

3.  You must wear appropriate attire at all practices and games. The following is not appropriate:

a.  Short skirts

b.  Unreasonably tight shirts or shorts.

c.  Tank tops or shirts that show the belly button.

4.  Be on time.

5.  You are not a Doctor, Athletic Trainer, or Physical Therapist, so do not attempt to evaluate, assess, diagnose or treat a student-athlete without the direct supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer.

6.  Do not discuss the status of any student-athlete’s injury or illness with anyone.

7.  Never transport an injured student-athlete under any circumstances.

8.  Never dispense any medication to a student-athlete or coach.

9.  Do not perform any tasks such as treatment, rehabilitation, taping, wrapping, etc. without the permission of the Head Athletic Trainer.

10.  You may only perform a task (i.e. taping) once you are proficient in that task and have permission from the Head Athletic Trainer.

11.  When at practices or games, make sure you are always paying attention to the activity on the field and have the appropriate medical supplies with you in the event of a situation that warrants medical attention.

12.  Keep the Athletic Training Room clean and organized. It is a medical facility and should be treated as one.

13.  Clean and disinfect all coolers, water bottles, treatment and taping tables after practices and game.

14.  Make sure each student-athlete is signing in and all treatments and tapings are recorded in the treatment log.

15.  Stay busy and don’t be afraid to ask questions. This is a learning experience.

16.  Have Fun! Being part of the Athletic Training staff should be an enjoyable and learning experience. But remember to always remain professional!
