Pre-UIL Contest

Location: KingwoodPark HS

Dear students and parents,

In our preparation for our up-coming UIL performance, we will be performing at the Humble ISD Pre-UIL Contest. Pre-UIL contest gives us the opportunity to perform our concert under similar conditions as the actual UIL contest and hopefully work out any bugs we may have in our preparation. UIL Contest consists of two parts. The first part is a concert in which the orchestra plays three selections that meet certain special criteria; this will take place in the auditorium. After the concert we will move into the second part, called sight-reading. For the sight-reading portion of the contest, the director is given either 7 or 8 minutes (depending on which group) to teach the orchestra to perform a given piece of music that no member of the orchestra, usually including the director, has ever seen before. The orchestra never gets to make a sound on their instruments during the teaching time and they have one chance to perform the piece. This is the most exciting part of the learning experience.

Our Pre-UIL performances will be on Tuesday, February11, 2014. Parents are encouraged to attend the concert and the sight-reading. If you have never seen the sight-reading portion I am sure you will be amazed.
