BBELMeetings and Group Meetings

Open, effective, and regular communications is a key to the success of group. The following meetings are designed just for that purpose:
Individual meetings between Shulin Chen and each group member
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss program progress and problems encountered, research hypothesis, research results and publications.
- Students before a thesis proposal is approved
More frequent meetings are required during this period for the student mentoring. The students are required to meet with Shulin Chen at least once per month to discuss program issues. The students are required to contact Shulin Chen to set up a meeting no less than an hour each month. - Students after a proposal is approved
The students are required to meet with Shulin Chen at least once per 2 months to discuss research progress. The students are required to contact Shulin Chen to set up a meeting no less than an hour each 2 months. - Post-Doctoral Research Associate
Post-doctoral research associates are expected to conduct research relatively independently. Face to face meeting with Shulin Chen will be conducted on a need base. - Other access to Shulin Chen
Phone call any time, thus considering using telephone first; if additional face to face meeting is needed: Monday and Wednesday afternoons are preferred, just walk in; other time, call or sending a message for appointment
Group meetings
Meetings involves the entire BBEL group will be held on a need base. The purpose of this meeting is to get the members an opportunity to share with the group more important results and opportunity to practice presentation to a larger group. The presentation has to be well prepared so that not waste people’s time. The presenter will be decided on a volunteer base.
Subgroup meetings
Once every week, BBEL will meet as separate subgroups, Ethanol, AD, Biodiesel and Biochemicals. The main purpose of the meetings isbriefing the group any new development from each member, presenting and discussingnew results, approve experimental plans, review research in a given area, and coordinate group activities.
Management meeting
On a need base with a frequency of about once a month, a management meeting will be held. Participants: All post-Doc Research Associates and other staff are required to attend. Students are welcome; discussion topics: opportunities, proposals, collaborations, project reports, and group management issues.
Lab tour/meeting
Formal and informal meeting between Shulin Chen and a researcher will be conducted in the lab to discuss experiment set up, lab work, etc.
Brain storming/team meetings
Held ad hoc at team level, organized separately by subgroup coordinator or team leader, suggested by any group member. The meeting will be held only if someone requests.
