Position reports to: / Nurse Unit Manager Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)and
Nurse Unit Manager Special Care Nursery (SCN) / Positions reporting to this one: / Clinical staff and multi disciplinary team.
Position Purpose: /
- Compliment and support the strategic direction and management within the Neonatal Nurseries.
- Respond to and effectively manage the day to day operation of the Neonatal Nurseries in the absence of the Nurse Unit Manager.
- Promote excellence in clinical practice and family centred care.
- Provide leadership and clinical support to the nursing team.
Qualifications: /
- Division 1 Registered Nurse and/or Registered Midwife
- Post Graduate qualification in neonatal nursing

- Ensure nursing leadership within the Neonatal Nurseries
- Internal compliance (culture, behaviour and practice) and commitment from staff on the unit
- Assist the Nurse Unit Manager in facilitating the implementation of operational strategies in line with MHW’s Strategic Directions
- To be a role model and resource person within Neonatal Nurseries.
- Compliment and support the management team
- Ensure the provision and implementation of quality clinical care
- Assist in the implementation of quality management
- Organisation successfully accredited by ACHS
- Ongoing provision of quality care
- Complies with OH&S policy, Infection Control, Quality Control procedures and policies
- Attends in-services to promote evidence-based practice
- Keeps up to date with quality accreditation standards
- Promotes excellence in nursing care that upholds the rights of patients and family in relation to safety, privacy and confidentiality.
- Contributes towards the organisation being successfully accredited by ACHS.
- Participates in a nominated portfolio within the Neonatal Nurseries, and reports to the NUM on a monthly basis at the ANUM meeting.
