ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF NETWORKED SYSTEMS

Reports to: Director of Information & Technology Services

I.  POSITION SUMMARY: The Associate Director of Networked Systems (ADNS) will work under the direction of the Director of Information and Technology Services in the management of all communications and local and wide area networking at the college. The ADNS will assist in the coordination of the activities of personnel within this area as required. The Associate Director of Networked Systems will also assist in providing training, technical assistance/consulting and other related services within this area.

II.  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A.  Responsible for planning and maintaining the security and backup of all college networked systems.

B.  Provides technical assistance and consulting.

C.  Supervises activities of assigned personnel.

D.  Designs networked and communications systems.

E.  Coordinates the installation and maintenance of network operating systems and equipment.

F.  Analyzes requirements and prepares proposals for system projects.

G.  Responsible for troubleshooting network, communications and P.C. related problems.

H.  Assists in the specification and purchasing of related products.

I.  Assists in the design of mission critical and non-critical applications or projects.

J.  Remains up-to-date with new technology that may be utilized by the college.

K.  Responsible for generation and maintenance of documentation on the college local and wide area networks and non-administrative computer systems.

L.  Responsible for maintaining all network servers, data communications systems and application software.

M.  Responsible for maintenance of all user accounts on the networks.

III.  OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

A.  Perform other duties as assigned.

IV.  QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

·  Bachelor’s Degree with specific coursework in Computer Science

·  Broad knowledge of local and wide area networking and data communications

·  Broad knowledge of Novell and Microsoft network operating systems

·  Broad knowledge of personal computers and related topics

·  Broad knowledge of the Windows and UNIX operating systems

·  Ability to provide leadership on assigned projects

Preferred:

·  Two years of experience in network management

·  Additional course work or training on the latest computer technology
