ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP

West Virginia University School of Nursing (WVUSON) is seeking an Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship to lead its research and scholarship mission. The WVUSON is one of five professional schools in the WVU Health Sciences Center - -Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Public Health--supporting interprofessional collaboration and education. The adjacent WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital is part of a multi-hospital system that includes affiliated community and specialty clinics.

Education & Experience should include:

  • a PhD in nursing or a related field
  • at least five years of academic experience at the rank of Associate Professor
  • evidence of professional leadership and progressive leadership responsibilities
  • demonstrated record of funded grants and publications
  • demonstrated experience growing a research program
  • demonstrated track record of academic innovations
  • a current registered nurse license in West Virginia or the ability to secure a West Virginia RN license

Essential Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Collaborate with the Dean and other Associate Deans, and colleagues throughout the University in determining the direction of research and scholarship within the School of Nursing.
  • Establish a rapport and credibility with the WVU SON faculty.
  • Provide oversight for all aspects of the SON's research mission, providing creative leadership that promotes growth and innovation in faculty scholarship, research, and strategic initiatives, in compliance with university procedures and regulatory mandates.
  • Serve as the liaison to external funding agencies and community entities that further the school's research agenda.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills to create and support opportunities for research teams across the university.
  • Promote cooperative and collaborative research arrangements with clinical practice partners and private industry.
  • Demonstrate ability to disseminate current information about funding opportunities and trends in nursing science and research throughout the SON.
  • Facilitate the successful preparation and submission of proposals.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills to provide the Dean analysis of grants portfolio, research agenda, scholarly activities, external benchmarks, and overall reputation. Ensure timely availability of accurate data related to the school's activities.
  • Work closely with the Dean and appropriate offices on matters related to the SON marketing/promotion and faculty recruitment to improve external rankings and reputation.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a hands-on manner, adjusting to issues as needed in a dynamic work environment.
  • Continuously mentor faculty to develop their research and scholarship, provide guidance in funding sources and monitoring research projects to ensure they meet stated goals, in addition to guidance related to national and international presentations and publications.
  • Maintain an active research presence, representingWVU School of Nursing at regional, state, national and international levels to garner recognition for the SON's excellent nursing programs and further the research and reputational agenda.
  • Mentor faculty and staff in how to obtain more funding, and guide them through the process of applying for and monitoring grants.
  • Collaborate with Office of Research and Graduate Education to ensure timely document review and approval.
  • Work closely with the Dean and Associate Dean for Academics and faculty to incorporate research and innovative projects appropriate to the skill level of nursing students into the curriculum and better prepare students to be effective researchers, scholars, and innovators.
  • Seek partnerships with health care agencies and industry in the conduct of research programs that address societal needs.
