Nursing Assistant Training Programs in Maryland

CNA training in Maryland is offered through high schools, colleges, nursing homes and some freestanding organizations as approved vendors. The length of the CNA program varies by facility, but generally they have similar clock hour requirements. The programs incorporate classroom learning as well as hands-on clinical experience. Ultimately, an approved CNA training prepares the student with the knowledge and nursing skills necessary to perform as a CAN.

No matter what the position title, anyone performing basic nursing tasks under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse and is being paid for this work must have nurse aide certification in the state of Maryland. Facilities, by law, are not allowed to let non-certified nursing assistants work in their facility. What all this means is that if you are interested in becoming a CNA in Maryland, your first step will be to select an approved nursing assistant training program.

The CNA position is one of the fastest growing career choices in Maryland. As the population continues to age, more and more qualifies and certified professionals will be needed to meet the health care demands of this aging population. According to the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation - Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning, CNAs in the state make a median hourly wage of $13.40 and a median annual salary of $27,900. The Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning, also predict 29% job growth for nursing assistants and related positions, which is much higher than the predictions for the nation as a whole. This means it is an opportune time to start your training in the field of health care, such as becoming a CNA in Maryland.

Most individuals opt to take the State Exam to be GNA certified, that opens more opportunities for job placement, as many facilities only hire CNA/GNA personnel. CNA/GNA persons also become Certified Medication Technicians (CMT) to be certified to administer medication to a third party in a residential setting. These certifications will you a broader range of opportunities for employment.

Health Wellness statement (within the last 6 months).
Proof of current negative TB skin test or chest X-ray

Proof of Hepatitis B vaccine or sign a waiver form.
