ASSISTANT STORE MANAGER

Resale Shop - Westmont

Family Shelter Service, an agency providing help and hope for victims of domestic violence and their children for 40 years, is looking to hire an Assistant Store Manager for our Second Chance Resale Shop in Westmont.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in retail operations and supervision. Resale experience is highly preferred.

The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for assisting the Manager of Resale Operations in the superior management and profitable operation of the Second Chance Resale store in Westmont. In addition, this individual ensures a warm, welcoming and friendly store environment for customers, donors, volunteers, and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in maintaining a safe, clean, and attractive store environment
  2. Ensures the dignity and confidentiality of our client shoppers
  3. Manages the day-to-day performance of Sales Associates and Cashiers
  4. Schedules all employees within budgeted hours, verifying the accuracy of payroll against employees’ worked hours
  5. Completes performance evaluations on all Sales Associates and Cashiers
  6. Provides training to volunteers and supports and encourages volunteer participation
  7. Responsible for the accurate recording of working hours for non-staff, such as Workability, Community Service and General Volunteers
  8. Maintains, processes, prices and displays inventory as directed by the Manager of Resale Operations to ensure that monthly sales goals are attained
  9. Follows established procedures for opening and closing the stores, closing out of cash receipts at the close of business when scheduled
  10. Maintains or delegates and submits weekly/monthly reports as assigned by the Director of Resale Operations, such as Volunteer Report, Cashier Log, Coupon Report, Weekly Sales
  11. Participates and supports all sales and special fund-raising promotions
  12. Motivates employees and volunteers of the importance of FSS mission
  13. Other duties as directed by the Manger of Resale Operations

Relationships:

  1. Supervised by the Manager of Resale Operations
  2. Manages the day-to-day performance of the paid and unpaid staff
  3. Collaborates closely with the Volunteer Advocate and Development team members when appropriate
  4. Establishes and maintains appropriate relationships with donors, customers, and Family Shelter Service clients

Qualifications and Characteristics:

  1. Education: High school and some college preferred
  2. Experience: Prefer a minimum of 3 years experience in retail business with supervisory experience. Resale experience highly preferred.
  3. Technical: Good accounting and management skills
  4. Social Skills: Must be able to respond appropriately in varied situations, function independently and demonstrate tact, and flexibility
  5. Leadership Skills: Must demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, good judgment and commitment to teamwork

Special Conditions:

  1. Must be able to work varied hours including some evenings and weekends
  2. Must be able to lift and carry 35 lbs. and stand for stand for protracted periods of time
  3. Must be able to operate general office equipment, cash register, credit card machine and computer
  4. Must have privately owned vehicle, valid driver’s license, good driving record and liability insurance
