Dear Parents,

Chestatee Elementary is in the initial phase of creating classes for the upcoming school year. Some of our teachers will be changing grade levels and new educators will be joining our faculty. I am excited about the highly qualified staff that will be in place next year. Our teachers provide input for the next school year, and we would like to give parents the opportunity as well. The form below may be used to let us know some specific information about your child’s need. We will certainly take the information you provide in consideration as we make class placements. This form must be received in the school office by May 1, 2012.

Kind Regards,

Polly Tennies

ALL THINGS GREEN!

April is Earth Month!

If you haven’t seen it already, check out the Outdoor Classroom which is located on the north side of the school (breezeway between K-1 classrooms). This wonderful addition to our campus was made possible through the hard work and efforts of our 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Wolfer and her husband. They worked countless hours lobbying, planning, designing, and building this area for the benefit of ALL our children. A second classroom is planned for the south side of the school.

Girl Scout Troop #11824 is sponsoring a contest throughout the month of April. Chestatee students make Water Promises to support our efforts towards Water Conservation in our Community. A flyer was sent home just before Spring Break with details. Every student that participates will get a small treat as a Thank You for participating. The class with the highest participation will get a bigger Thank You!

Girl Scouts USA, in conjunction with the EPA and others is sponsoring a nationwide Take Action project during the months of March, April, and May called “Forever Green”. You can register any group at http://www.girlscouts.org/gsforevergreen.

Are you interested in local efforts to Keep Forsyth County Beautiful? How about participating in an Earth Day Event? Check out Keep Forsyth County Beautiful’s calendar of events at: www.forsythco.com/department.asp?DeptID=43. One of their events will be the Great American Clean Up at Fowler Park, April 21, 2012, 9am-1pm. They also provide several no cost presentations for groups of all ages on water conservation.Cached – Similar

REMINDER: Earth Eagles is continuing to collect Capri Sun juice pouches. If you use them at home, consider sending them in to the school for upcycling instead of putting them in the local landfill.

DID YOU KNOW???? Recycling ONE aluminum can saves enough energy to run a television for one hour. Aluminum can be recycled endlessly. It takes about 20 years for an aluminum can to break down in a commercial landfill.

A Note from Mrs. Wolfer:

Progress is well underway for Phase One of the Chestatee Courtyard Gardens Project. Students and volunteers alike have been hard at work installing benches, a teaching board, and an entrance arbor, as well as various plants and mulch to enhance the area. A dedication ceremony will take place in late May. Phase Two will continue shortly as we develop a similar courtyard garden for the 3rd - 5th grade wings. Volunteers to help work on the project would be much appreciated, so if you are interested in helping out, please contact or . Thanks!
