Summary
Dogs Trust is the largest dog-welfare organisation in the UK. We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome nearly 17,000 stray and abandoned dogs a year at our 21 rehoming centres across the UK and Ireland.
The Marketing Officer works as part of the Donor Development team to develop, implement and monitor strategy in relation to promotion of Dogs Trust’s brand within new and existing audiences.
The Marketing Officer will be responsible for a variety of marketing projects, including brand management, national press and TV advertising, our tri-annual supporter magazine, organising signage for our 21 rehoming centres and other assorted projects.
Duties
Branding
  • Assist in maintaining the charity’s brand, helping with queries from other teams, external agencies and supporters where required.
  • Manage the branding of new or rebuilt rehoming centres by supplying appropriate signage, from initial planning and design, through to production and finally overseeing installation.
  • Work closely with strategic, creative, product placement, mobile and media buying agencies to manage national and regional advertising campaigns across all channels.
CRM Magazine
  • With guidance from Manager, manage the post-print processes to ensure the smooth running of our tri-annual supporter magazine mailing to over 800K supporters.
  • Supporting the Editor in writing some copy for the magazine, where required.
  • Manage an assist an external agency with the booking of 3rd party inserts into the magazine mailings, ensuring that all companies and creative are in keeping with Dogs Trust’s ethics and policies.
Brand Analysis
  • To manage and communicate findings of regular brand awareness tracking research delivered via partner agencies.
Data & Database Work
  • Use in-house software to carry out data analysis and mailing selections.
  • Produce reports as requested.
General
  • Dealing with supporter queries and complaints by telephone, email and letter.
  • Assisting Fundraising Assistants with admin during busy periods.
  • Liaising and negotiating with agencies and suppliers over costs and production of materials.
  • Develop and establish relations with other teams within Dogs Trust.
  • Maintaining good relations with agencies, photographers, printers and rehoming centre staff.
  • Run stock checks and restock printed materials.
  • Assist in briefing agencies and attend agency meetings as directed.
  • Undertake other duties as required.

Person Specification

Essential Qualities

  • Previous marketing experience.
  • A keen eye for design and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends (TOIL given). Overnight visits are also a requirement, especially with regards to rebranding of rehoming centres across the UK.
  • Experience of working with data and databases.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to prioritise own workload effectively and work to deadlines across a variety of projects.
  • Good IT skills.
  • A proactive, confident and dynamic personality – passionate about their work and willing to go the extra mile.
  • Sympathetic with the aims and objectives of Dogs Trust.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Preferable Qualities

  • Full, clean, manual driving licence.
  • Educated to degree level.
