Extra-CurricularSports

The Blue Coat School has a long and distinguished history of sporting success, of which we are very proud. We are always striving to continue and improve the sporting provision for all of our students at all ability levels.

The school regularly has success in team games and individual sports on a local, county, regional and national level. There is a long history of our sports teams undertaking overseas tours.

The school is best known for its success in Basketball, AssociationFootball and Cricket. The Girls’sporting forte lies within the team games of Netball and Hockey, where they compete strongly in the highly competitive Liverpool schools’ leagues. It is also usual for Blue Coat teams to figure in the latter stages of the Lancashire County tournaments in both of these sports.

The major winter sports for girls are hockey and netball, and association football and basketball for the boys. Cross-country running is offered to both.

The major summer sport for girls is rounders, and for boys is cricket. Athletics is the other major summer sport and is offered to both

Recently an extra-curricular rugby provision has been started in the Sixth Form and opportunities (in all year groups) for competitive swimming have returned.

Duke of Edinburgh

The School is currently working with the North West Regional office in offering a large number of students the opportunity to gain both Bronze and Silver awards. This is an area in which we are looking to become more self-sufficient in the future. Previous experience of D of E involvement would be advantageous, as would a commitment to being involved in its provision in the future at the Blue Coat school.
