General Objectives

The purpose of this component is to provide the opportunity for schools to hold a variety of planned school improvement inservice activities for their faculties/staffs throughout the course of a year. Through this process, teachers will align curriculum and assessment practices and activities to the Sunshine State Standards, analyze data from a variety of classroom and standardized tests, and use the results of the data analysis to enhance their instructional practices to improve student achievement. Upon successful completion of the component, participants will be able to demonstrate increased knowledge in topics covered.

Specific Objectives

Upon completion of this component participants will:

  1. Recall basic assessment terminology encountered when discussing classroom assessment.
  2. Recall the Florida Sunshine State Standards, Grade Level Expectations and the FCAT test.
  3. Using existing data, analyze individual student and group results including: FCAT data, district-level data, and classroom level data.
  4. Use an Achievement Management System to access formal assessment data.
  5. Using classroom-level data, build conclusions about the overall instructional program.
  6. Using district-level and FCAT data, build conclusions about student gains.
  7. Examine why students did/did not perform well on specific assessments.
  8. Analyze and be able to use assessment data for formative and summative purposes.
  9. Connect assessment to grading practices.
  10. Establish strategies for classroom decision-making that will link how instruction is presented in the classroom to how students perform on formal assessments aligning to Florida’s Sunshine State Standards.
  11. Learn team-building strategies to assist teachers in analyzing data to make curriculum changes for continuous student improvement.

Description of Activities

Under the direction of a school-based administrator, participants may earn inservice credits for a wide variety of mini-workshop sessions, each with the ability to stand alone, to be held as an integral part of faculty meetings, or as a series of mini-workshops. Specific objectives from other appropriate components in the Santa Rosa MASTER INSERIVCE PLAN may be incorporated into this component in order to broaden its effectiveness

Evaluation of Participants

Evaluation of the specific objectives will be determined by the activity leader or designee through analysis of student performance data affected by training activities, portfolios maintained by the training participant, documented observation by administrators, rubrics developed for special area curriculum, teacher-provided test results/grade books, or curriculum alignment data.

Evaluation of Activity

An online evaluation for this activity is not required. The facilitator may assign an evaluation survey through the Santa Rosa Professional Growth System if there is a need.
