Job Summary

The Secretary of Campus Life and Events is responsible for assisting the overall success of BC student clubs and programs event creation, management, and evaluation. They act as a liaison between clubs and programs and BC resources around campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Applicants must meet the minimum qualificationsby the end of Winter quarter 2014.

  • 2.7 cumulative BC college-level GPA or 2.7 quarterly BC college-level GPA for the two (2) previous consecutive quarters. The GPA will default to whichever is highest.
  • Twelve (12) college-level credits within Bellevue College. (If a student is on a reduced credit load as determined by BC administration, minimum requirement shall be the equivalent of one full time college level quarter.)
  • If elected, candidates must relinquish their position as an officer in any BC club or program per the ASG By-Laws 5.1.4.

To be eligible for this position, applicants must meet the minimum qualifications and must submit a complete application packet which includes the following*:

  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from Bellevue College staff, faculty, or administration.

  • Describe your involvement on campus.
  • Describeyour experience organizing events, including any experience organizing an event with more than 100 attendees.

  • Experience in event coordination, recruiting volunteers, and conducting assessment.
  • Current or previous involvement in Bellevue College clubs/programs.
  • Experience working with diverse groups.

Essential functions shall include but are not limited to:

  • Attend all ASG/Bellevue College/Student Programs training sessions and meetings, including but not limited to the Camp Casey Leadership Retreat, summer training, and quarterly retreats.
  • Serve on all assigned committees.
  • Encourage student participation and involvement with BC events.
  • Develop a working knowledge of, and abide by the ASBC Constitution, ASBC By-Laws, ASBC Ethics Code, and ASBC Financial Code.
  • Serve as an ASG ambassador to students, administrations, faculty, and staff.
  • Ensure the execution of students, clubs, and programs ideas and events.
  • Guide clubs, programs, and students through all necessary paperwork, and ensure smooth functions and interactions between them and Student Programs.
  • Collaborate with Campus Activities Board (CAB) to promote club, programs, and ASG events.
  • Meet with the EventsCoordinator to ensure optimal execution of all campus events.
  • Attend club and program meetings and events as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, clubs and programs and ASG, Bellevue College Food Services, and Events Staff.
  • Serve as Committee Chair for the Student Senate Events Committee (pending approval)
  • Assist staff members with the quarterly Open House logistics and club participation
  • Facilitate a quarterly Club Caucus, and Club Fair
  • Connect students, clubs, and programs to facilities and resources on campus.
  • Oversee club policies and procedures with Student Programs and Judicial Branch as needed.
  • Plan and coordinate events to bring visibility to student life at Bellevue College, ASG, and Student Programs.
  • Conduct outreach to new and existing students by providing tours as needed
  • Aid the Peer-to-Peer program in their quarterly phone-a-thon effort

ASG ELECTION TIMELINE:Timeline is subject to change pending By-Law change and/or amendment.

  • Application OPENS February 6th, 2014
  • Application CLOSES March 21st, 2014
  • Completed applications and required documents must be submitted to the Student Programs Front Desk by 5pm March 21st(Room C-212)
  • All applications will be forwarded onto the Election Committee.
  • The Election Committee will review applications and information provided by each applicant, if the applicants do not meet the minimum requirements they will be disqualified.
  • Candidate orientations will be held from April 7th to April 11th 2014
  • Campaigning can start April 14th.
  • The ASG BBQ will be on April 15th from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the Carlson Theater (E-Building) courtyard. Campaign speeches will take place at this event, as well as a Q&A session with the Watchdog. Voting will open.
  • Voting will end on April 25th at 5:00 PM,
  • The ASG Elect will be announced on April 28th
