KEY TO THE ASA UMPIREEVALUATION FORM
1) CATEGORIES
a. We will use the following key for the top 5 categories:
i. 2 = UNSATISFACTORY (does not meet minimum standards)
ii. 4 = SATISFACTORY (usually meets minimum standards)
iii. 6 = GOOD (meets minimum standards)
iv. 8 = VERY GOOD (meets minimum standards: shows consistent improvement with each outing)
v. 10 = EXCELLENT (exceeds minimum standards: excels in rules. mechanics and game management)
b. Instructions - Use 1 - 5 numbers for the last two categories:
i. 1 = UNSATISFACTORY (does not meet minimum standards)
ii. 2 = SATISFACTORY (usually meets minimum standards)
iii. 3 = GOOD (meets minimum standards)
iv. 4 = VERY GOOD (meets minimum standards: shows consistent improvement with each outing)
v. 5 = EXCELLENT (exceeds minimum standards; excels in rules, mechanics and game management)
c.Some categories will be Doubled weighted.
d.Maximum total points will be 60 points.

vi. Appearance/Mobility (Uniform, equipment, grooming, conditioning, movement appropriate to level of play.)
vii. Championship Behavior (Cooperation with UIC, Tournament Staff Crew, punctuality)
2) COMMENTS
a.Make targeted and honest recommendations, in a positive manner, for improvements specifically related to evaluated categories.
b.Anything lower than a 5 must be accompanied by comments.
c.Sometime a 5 deserves comments as to why they were Excellent.
d.Try to close with a positive comment.
3) RECOMMENDATION TO FUTURE CHAMPIONSHIPS
a. Recommendations should be

2) Return to a higher level
3) Return to the same level
4) Return to a lower level
5) Do not return
b. Use Divisions (Major, Adult or JO and Classifications, as all National Championships are
highest level in that Classification.
c. "Return to Lower Division" or "Do Not Return" should be evident in the comments
4) OVERALL RATINGS
a. Use category point total to determine overall rating.
i. 55 - 60 = EXCELLENT
ii. 44 - 54 = VERY GOOD
iii. 36 – 43 = GOOD
iv. 24 – 35 = SATISFACTORY
v. 23 or less = UNSATISFACTORY
