Sunday 16 November saw a huge surge in Junior Triathlon participation with a total of 19 children aged 4-14 taking part. This season, we are including a 30minute skills session prior to the first race, and these have been enthusiastically received. This week we focused on cycling, where we played some games and did some exercises aimed at improving bike handling, both as individuals and as a group. Fighting for a position while navigating around witch’s hats was fun but tricky! Well done everyone and thanks to Cam and Kate our KMSC cycling gurus for bringing your fresh eyes, ideas and suggestions.
As with last year, each Junior Triathlon comprises 2 races, the first being a group start (everyone together) and the second being a staggered start (time handicaps given, based on finish time in race 1), to give every participant a roughly equal chance of winning the second round. Good handicapping can lead to some exciting race finishes and we certainly saw some excellent sprints happening in race 2.

Seniors this week provided 2 race distance options either the standard 300/10/3 or the longer sprint distance at 750/20/5 and we had 8 and 6 entries each respectively, which made for quite a full pool and some good racing. There were also quite a few first timers there; which is always good to see. Thanks to Zoe and Sarah for timekeeping for the day. If you haven’t got your name down already for one race to assist, please contact Caroline to let her know the weekend that suits you best to be a time keeper.
