Hi Hannah,

As substantial changes were agreed to the Research Committee at the last AGM, we have done very little business since then. The Committee, in its old form, has not met since then. The only outstanding piece of research was John Soong’s AF Survey and this has been on hold any way, pending John’s transition into a consultant post.

The subsequent focus has been on SAMBA and ensuring that its governance structures are more robust.

The intention is that the Research Committee will be revamped and relaunched after the election of officers in September. We will also be relaunching the Small Grants scheme.

In the meantime, I have continued to represent SAM on various NIHR funded projects and committees. Of note, it has been agreed that the new Emergency Care Data Set (ECDS) should be extended to Acute and Ambulatory Care as part of its extended roll-out. There will also be a call next year for Acute Medicine Units to participate in the Antibiotic Reduction and Conservation study.

On the education front, we have Margaret Johnson, from the RCP, speaking at SAM. The RCP has been doing excellent work on how to encourage physicians to do more research and so it will be excellent to have her kick off the Research Session at the conference.

Kind regards,

Louella

Subject: SAM Council Birmingham 10th Sept 1:30pm

Dear all,

Please see attached papers for Sunday 10th SAM Council. I’ve also included the AGM paperwork and slides which are mostly finished.

Sarah will upload to the SAM website for you– if you do not have a Council log in, please ask Sarah to set you up so you can access the papers online.

For those of you who are new to Council – you’ll see on the agenda that there is a chance to report from your role. This can be done by sending me a short written update (and I mean short) which I can circulate beforehand, or you can have a few minutes at the meeting to bring us up to date or just to introduce yourself.

For those of you who’ve got any other docs/updates to circulate, please get them to me.

Any questions, just give me a bell – 07870397452

See you soon,

Hannah
