Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program

Program Type: Merit-based Scholarship

Purpose: To encourage and reward academic achievement of Georgia students at the high school and college level by providing scholarship assistance.

Eligibility

1.  Must have graduated from an eligible high school with a "B" average, as defined by the HOPE program, or have earned at least a 3.0 grade point average at the college level at specific credit-hour checkpoints;

2.  Be enrolled as a degree-seeking student at an eligible public or private college or university or technical college in Georgia;

3.  Be a legal resident of Georgia;

4.  Be a U.S. citizen or national of the U.S. or have evidence from INS of eligible permanent resident alien status;

5.  Be in compliance with Selective Service registration requirements;

6.  Be in compliance with the Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990;

7.  Not be in default or owe a refund on a student financial aid program;

8.  Maintain satisfactory academic progress, as defined by the college.

Value

Recipients attending public institutions receive an award covering their tuition, approved fees, and a book allowance up to $100 per quarter or $150 per semester. Recipients attending private institutions as full-time students receive an award of $1,000 per quarter or $1,500 per semester. Recipients attending private institutions as half-time students receive an award of $500 per quarter or $750 per semester.

Application Procedure

For Public Postsecondary Institutions: Complete either the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the eHOPE electronic application.

For Private Postsecondary Institutions: Complete an eHOPE/eTEG electronic application.

Other Information

In order to maintain and renew the scholarship, recipients must have at least a 3.0 grade point average at specific checkpoints. Recipients cannot receive payment for more than 127 semester/190 quarter hours from any combination of payments from the HOPE Scholarship, HOPE Grant, and Accel Program.
