5. Resources

Please refer back o the September 2010 bulletin for the details of available resources.

The following are new developments that are now available:

Dear Colleages

I am sending details of new resources developed by NGfL Cymru.

The Rhannu website ( developed by NGfL Cymru, is a place where teachers can share resources with each other. It is unmoderated; it therefore provides a useful opportunity for teachers to work collaboratively without WJEC or NGfL Cymru having to vet or endorse materials. It is already being used successfully in World Development and in other subjects

Before teachers can upload or dowbnload materials from the website they must register. This is best achieved by registering with NGfL Cymru as the username and password will also give teachers access to Rhannu.

To register with NGfL-Cymru click on the Register / Login to 'My NGfL Cymru'link on the banner at the top of the NGfL-Cymru opening screen. (ngfl-cymru.org.uk)

Before teachers can download materials from Rhannu they must have contributed a resource to the website. Information about uploading and downloading can be found by clicking on Help at the bottom of the page. The site can be accessed through the medium of Welsh or English.

AS Population Unit

The final unit of the series supporting the WJEC AS GCE in Geography specification dealing with Population Change is now available in both languages on the NGfL Cymru website at:

Environment Agency Resources

NGfL Cymru have developed a series of investigations in partnership with the Environment Agency based on resources on their website. The resources raise awareness of flooding and complement activities created by NGfL Cymru at KS4 and A level. The development of these resources has led to a restructuring of the website for Geography at A/AS level and Key Stage 4. More details will be available soon with a framework document linking the Key Questions in G1 to current materials on the site and to the Environment Agency resources.

BBC

A series of programmes are now being broadcast that are of huge benefit to Geographers called ‘Human Planet’. Teaching resources based on the programmes are also being prepared including re-edited video clips that will appear on the BBC Class Clips website and in Welsh on Eclips when all of the programmes have been shown.

In Development: AS, G2, Theme 1, Investigating Population Change. (early autumn)

Being authored this year: Unit G4, Sustainability. The themes will appear when they are ready and all four should be complete by September 2011
