General Information
Y1–Students will draw, paint, and clay in this multi-media art class. They will learn a variety of skills in order to discover their favorite medium.

Use art materials and tools safely
Use of art materials to communicate ideas
Identify various purposes for creating works of visual art
Understand there are different responses to specific artworks
Learn drawing and painting skills
Learn to paint and mix colors
Explore multiple mediums and materials to create artworks
Be involved in the process and presentation of a final product
View artworks on view in the galleries. Analyze and discuss the ideas in the works and their symbols and subjects in history and culture
Course Materials
Required Materials (most should be provided by teacher covered in course fee, indicate if provided by student, i.e. sewing kit)

Course Schedule
Week / TopicOne, two, three / Learn drawing skills, painting and brain storm use of materials. / Learn about colors and use in a work of art. / Paint drawings. Visit galleries and view the exhibition for inspiration and discussion.
Learn about lines and shades.
Four, Five, Six, Seven / Introduce clay and discuss its unique characteristics. Learn techniques for working with clay. / Discussion about 3D works and solve problems about materials and techniques to create 3D works / Begin working with materials to create 3D works of art.
Discuss tools used when working with clay. Show students the clean-up process specific to clay.
Eight, Nine, Ten / Glaze clay artworks. Add finishing touches to all works. Visit galleries and view the exhibition for inspiration and discussion
Eleven, Twelve / Finalize works of art and present to class.
End of Semester: Finished Work
- Evidence of Learning (circle one): post-test score improvement, fine arts recital, work of art/art show, class/parent/public performance, achievement of a higher level or rank, product creation, scrapbook, written examination or report.
