Art and Photography Tests

The rules for examinations set by the JCQ generally apply to Art and Photography tests.

The JCQ rules state specifically;

6.4 The Art timed test should normally be invigilated by an Art and Design teacher. As the Art and Design teacher may be required to give technical assistance to an individual candidate, additional invigilators may be deployed at the exams officer’s discretion to ensure the supervision of candidates is maintained at all times.

11.2 For Art examinations candidates may take into the examination room any preparatory supporting studies, work journals, notes or sketches which they have produced and which are to be submitted for assessment along with the work done in the period of the timed test. Candidates may also take into the examination room the objects and materials which are required to set up a still-life group. The invigilator must ensure that when candidates take preparatory supporting studies into the examination room, these are their own studies.

These examinations must be taken under formal conditions. For example, candidates are not permitted to listen to music.

The invigilator must:

• remind candidates that they are not allowed to communicate in any way with, ask for help from or give help to another candidate while they are in the examination room;

• remind candidates sitting timed Art examinations that the work produced during the timed test period must be their own, that they are not allowed to communicate in any way with, ask for help from or give help to another candidate while they are in the examination room; (The timed Art examination must be carried out under formal examination conditions.)

  • The Warning Notice and Phone Notices must be displayed. The tests generally last more than one day and the posters should remain in position for the duration. Please check that they are firmly affixed and displayed at the start of your session.
  • A clock must be available in each room.
  • The teacher will undertake the ID check. However, you should be given a list of students taking the exam and authorised to be present in the room.
  • Ensure that you have sufficient quantities of mobile phone bags. Collect phones at the start of the session and take the bags to college reception if they are not collected from you.
  • Use the Yellow invigilators record sheet to record any incident however trivial it may appear. Use the form to record when you stop the clock for a student because of illness or technical issues. Give the times to the teacher before the end of the session
  • You MUST complete the yellow invigilators record sheet for your session (even if there is nothing to record – mark the form NIL).
  • You may leave the room from time to time, particularly if you need to find a teacher or technician.
  • Return the Orange Kit Box and clock together with the Yellow record sheet to the Exams Office at the end of your session.
  • During the test you may read but do not engage in any activity that will prevent you from carrying out your duties.

CHECK THAT THE POSTERS ARE IN PLACE AND RETURN THE KIT BOX

AND ALL CONTENTS BACK TO EXAMS OFFICE AT END OF YOUR SESSION.
