Essential Standards
P.CX.1.4 Understand how personal aesthetic responses to art are influenced by culture.
1. All students must complete the assignments listed. All Honors level art students are required to take work home with them to finish. You may also come to the art room at these times to work on your artwork:
1.Before school: 7:30-8:00am
2.E block: ask Zoe for a pass
3.After school on Thursdays during Art Club: 3:25-5:00pm
4.With permission and notice, other days after school: ask Zoe if she is staying after!
2.Read chapter 7.2: pages 155-162 in Art in Focus, Egyptian Sculpture and Painting. In your sketchbook answer the Lesson Two questions on page 161: we will discuss them in class.
3.Cartouche assignment
Learn about Hierglyphics and Cartouches: See the definition on page 159. and books about Egypt
Create a sketch in your sketchbook of your name in a cartouche. What does the frame around a cartouche
represent? Why is it wrapped around the name? After this rough draft, make a final copy using the media and substrate you choose. It is due at the beginning of class tomorrow.
4.Learn about what Egyptians believed for an afterlife. Read the interview with an Egyptologist:
Warning: there are images of mummified humans without their wrappings! It is not for the faint of heart.
Discuss what you see in paintings about the afterlife.
5. Read the assignment under Lesson Two Review: Visual Arts Journal in your textbook. Create a cartoon about your birth or what you think your afterlife will be like. You may make it comic book style or flat panel style. Think about who is there and important items are around. You will write about the event as the Egyptian artists wrote hierglyphics on their artworks. You may use any media and substrate appropriate.
6.Friday will be your Egypt Test: STUDY!
