Careers and Employment:

Student Opportunities

Communications and Events:

Curriculum and Academic Policy:

- The 2017 Handbook is now published for public view. Academic Chairs and Unit Coordinators have been asked to check to make sure everything looks as it should. Please let us know if you notice anything untoward and we can hopefully follow up before students start to enrol.

Engagement:

(Domestic)

- The team have had a busy few weeks hosting Frederick Irwin Anglican School Yr11’s on campus for a day, and during the school holidays running the Media Portfolio workshop and ‘A day In The Life of a Uni Student’ for 70 year 9-10 students. With the return to school for Term 4, the team will be visiting schools, with the focus now on Yr 9-10, as the older students will be heading into their major exams.

- The Post Graduate Expos and Info Evenings are coming up. This year we are holding two sessions to better cater to where our audience may be located. The first event is on the evening of Thursday 20th Oct at the Parmelia Hilton, and the second session is on Wednesday 26th Oct on campus. - Kerina is heading on leave today, returning Mon 14th Nov, and Michael Ingram will be the Acting Domestic Engagement Manager. Please forward all enquiries regarding engagement activity to Michael.

- Recruitment for the 2017 Student Ambassadors has commenced. We are looking for Ambassadors across both recruitment and outreach. Details can be found on the Murdoch Job Vacancy section of the website.

Student Mobility (Inbound)

- Our Study Abroad & Exchange students went on the famous 10 day North West trip in September:

- More amazing experiences have been planned which include:

  • Swimming with dolphins
  • Rottnest Island day trip
  • South West trip
  • Surfing lesson
  • River cruise which is also the farewell event

Meet our new staff member – Tim Jardine (International Engagement Coordinator)

I grew up in a family of educators which has established a strong passion for international and tertiary education. I consider myself an ‘International baby’ since I have lived in 5 different countries (Australia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, UAE and Saudi Arabia). I like to play golf in my spare time and am a sucker for a good board game night with friends and family.

Regional Managers travel plans

- Fozzil will be travelling to Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam on a recruitment trip from the 7th – 25th October. While there he will be attending multiple agent fairs, presenting at workshops and attending agent briefings.

Enrolments & Fees:

Enrolments

- The Enrolments Team is focussing on reviewing 2016 forms and processes, and the set-up and preparation for 2017 enrolments.

Fees

- The Fees Team is focusing on debt management for the year, completing the Fee Review, and set-up for 2017

Equity and Social Inclusion:

- Pride Week is coming up. There will be a Pride Flag-raising ceremony on Thursday 27 October at 10am. This will be followed by a panel discussion titled ‘Inclusive university culture – how are we doing?’ All staff and students are welcome.

- Living Library event at Mandurah Campus in the alfresco area on Friday 21 October at 1pm. The theme is: ‘My Journey, My Career, My Story’. Afternoon tea will be provided too. All welcome!

- We’re short staffed again this week

Graduations & Results:

Graduations

- Friday 7 October was the last day for Singapore graduands to confirm their attendance without incurring a late fee. Please note that Singapore graduands can still confirm attendance up to a week before the graduation ceremony however they can only purchase the regalia and are subject to a late fee.

- We have started printing graduation documents for the 3 ceremonies. Graduation documents will be freighted to Singapore on Friday 14 October

Results

- OUA2 Board of Examiners are scheduled to run this week. Results will be released on Friday 14 October

- There is a planned Callista outage from 17.00 on Friday 14 October. We have worked out a schedule in conjunction with the Business Application Services (BAS) team to have run the results release job before the outage

Health:

(Medical)

- Due to popular demand we are repeating staff wellness Acupuncture guided Meditation Courses- see below for November dates- great to keep afloat and focused as we head towards the years end. See link to short video re courses http://www.murdoch.edu.au/Medical/Videos/

- Murdoch University Health (Medical) is offering acupuncture guided meditation workshops for staff wellness, run by one of our doctors Dr Su Lin Wan. ( See attached flyer)

- The four-week workshop will train you in qigong meditation techniques with the guidance of acupuncture (max 8 participants per course)

Discover which type of meditation best suits your needs, and how different techniques can be useful at different times.

Receive personal instruction, guidance and answers to your questions, and experience the benefits of guided qigong meditations in a friendly group setting.

You will leave this course with tools you need for your own daily meditation practice for wellbeing.

OSQA:

Analytics

- This week will be spent primarily on 2016 revisions to student, OS-HELP and SA-HELP data as we progress through the semester one data verification process, due this Friday 14th October.

- We are also continuing to work on Student Submission 3, due later this month.

- Murdoch First Scholarships Open – please note: both school-leavers and mature age can apply

- CSBP Fertilisers – New Honours Scholarship

Special Programs

- Booking the reunion travel for Australia Award students who are planning to return home due to graduating or returning home for the end of year break has been completed and handed over to BST to reconcile and bill

- Supplementary academic support is being arranged for some of the Australia Awards students who require proof-reading and editing services

Transition and Retention

- Preparing a series of transitioning material and guides for 2017

- Conducting an international orientation focus group on Thursday with 20 students confirmed attending

Student Retention Program

- Student Retention working group was cancelled and is being rescheduled due to many members being unable to attend. In the meantime Helen is collecting and merging data on students who completed the Unireadiness survey and current enrolment status.
