Army Wife Network holds true to its tagline “Interactive Empowerment for Army Wives by Army wives” by featuring the longest running talk radio show and podcast of its kind, with a live Twitter chat feature during show; AWN TableTalk, which is a live bi-weekly Facebook broadcast answering viewer questions; expert columns; experience bloggers; extensive resource database; post directory; interactive toolbar; and social media galore!

Mission

AWN is a collective group of new and seasoned Army wives and military community members on a mission to empower the journeys of those who follow. We will do this by providing relevant resources and information, networking opportunities, and expert advice.

ORIGIN

Army Wife Talk Radio (AWTR) began in April 2005 as the original internet talk radio program for military wives. Originally, AWTR was a 30-minute weekly internet talk radio broadcast featuring up to date information, tips, and empowerment for Army spouses. Through the years it has changed from 30 minutes up to 2 hours, and currently is a 60-minute weekly broadcast featuring a live Twitter chat for listeners to actively participate in the conversation. The show has had a great amount of success being featured in Military Spouse Magazine, Stars & Stripes Newspaper, Military.com, and Army.com, to name a few.

Army Wife Network (AWN) was launched in April 2009 as the umbrella that joined what was previously known as the websites of Army Wife Talk Radio (AWTR) and Field Problems™ (FP). In 2014 Loving A Soldier (LAS), AWN’s military family community blog located at LovingASoldier.com was combined with ArmyWifeNetwork.com to form one overall site.

The mission continues

After the retirement of AWN’s cofounder, Crystal Niehoff took ownership of Army Wife Network on January 1, 2016, continuing AWN’s enduring mission. Crystal was serving AWN in the role of Social Media Coordinator at the time, and directly supported AWN’s mission of providing relevant resources, information, and expert advice in various online media.

An Army chaplain’s wife and mother of five, Crystal discovered Army Wife Network in 2012, crediting AWN with an empowering start to her Army journey. “My heart is to serve and support our military families who have sacrificed so greatly for our country. I am beyond thrilled to be the one to carry the AWN mission into this exciting new chapter, with a vision for providing even more opportunities that will encourage, support and empower Army wives,” says Crystal.

Crystal is passionate about volunteering, giving her time to various organizations both within the military community as well as in the civilian sector. A former child welfare worker, Crystal is also a certified doula, and birth and bereavement chaplain. She is the author of Dads & Bereavement, available through Stillbirthday.com.

She has written articles for several organizations and websites on parenting, foster care and adoption; developed workshop curriculum for single parent soldiersand presents parenting workshops to soldiers and spouses. Crystal is also a contributing author of From Reveille to Retreat, the Journey of a Lifetime: A Handbook for the Army Chaplain’s Spouse, published by the U. S. Army in 2015.

AWN now features AWN TableTalk on Facebook LIVE, Field Exercise™ events, AWTR podcast, expert columnists features, experienced military family member stories, YouTube Resource videos, an extensive resource database, post reviews and directory, mobile app, and is a bustling community of military families sharing information and resources.
