INTRODUCTION. Welcome to the Tiger Battalion JROTC program! The Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) is a program offered to high schools that teaches students (Cadets) character education, student achievement, wellness, leadership, and diversity. Collectively, these lessons motivate students (Cadets) to be better citizens. It is a cooperative effort between the Army and the high school to produce successful students and citizens, while fostering a more constructive and disciplined learning environment.

CURRICULUM. With the school’s support, the JROTC program achieves success using a world-class 21st Century technology driven, student centered curriculum. The curriculum consists of education in citizenship, leadership, social and communication skills, physical fitness and wellness, geography, and civics.

Each cadet will also have the opportunity to participate in co-curricular activities such as:

JROTC Leadership Challenge and Academic Bowl (JLAB)-a competitive program that imparts values of leadership and citizenship while preparing for higher education milestones like college entrance exams.

Community Support Volunteer Events, Honor Guard, Drill Team, Color Guard, Rifle Team and Academic (LEADS) Team. All cadets are encouraged to participate in our after school team practice and events from 1630-1800.

COMPETENCY. Each JROTC lesson addresses a competency as the intended learning result. Competencies describe discipline-specific skills, knowledge, and attitudes that are measurable and observable. Performance standards (criteria and conditions) provide the specifications for assessing mastery of a competency. Cadets show they have learned competencies by applying them in the completion of assessment tasks that require them to do one or more of the following:

  • make a decision
  • perform a skill
  • perform a service
  • solve a problem
  • create a product

UNIFORMS. Cadets are issued aJROTC uniform consisting of shoes, socks, pants, belt, t-shirt, shirt, and beret. Additionally, worn on the shirt are any earned cadet decorations and awards. Cadets are required to wear the uniform on the prescribed day each week in accordance with Cadet Command Regulation 145-2.

EXPECTATIONS.The JROTC program core abilities will allow you to

  • Build your capacity for life-long learning
  • Communicate using verbal, non-verbal, visual, and written techniques
  • Take responsibility for your actions and choices.
  • Do your share as a good citizen in your school, community, country and the world.
  • Treat yourself and others with respect
  • Apply critical thinking techniques.

Academically, cadets must maintain an overall 2.0 GPA for the current quarter in order to participate in integrated curricular activities.

GRADES. Grades are determined by a combination of practical/hands-on performance, written examinations, wearing of the uniform,

  • Daily Assignments/Quizzes/Class Participation 35%
  • Exams (Unit Tests, Six Weeks Test and Benchmarks) 35%
  • Projects (Essays, Cadet Portfolio, Uniform Wear) 20%
  • Homework (Distance Learning, Service Learning) 10%

SCHEDULE. The normal weekly schedule for JROTC is:

Monday- Classroom Activities

Thursday- Cadet Uniform Inspection

Friday-Drill Classroom Activities/Assessment

Cadets will be responsible for any missed assignments.

SUPPLIES. Black or blue ink pen, pencil, and writing paper (loose leaf or spiral). 1st year cadets will be provided a folder to keep their work. Binders will be provided for 2nd -4th year cadets. Above all, bring an open-mind dedicated to learning new concepts and ideas further developing your potential as a successful student.
