Arkansas FFA members,

I have been considered shy my entire life, however, when I really get to know a person, I open up. Learning about people through their actions and body language is one of my traits I discovered through FFA. It turns out that I am not shy. I simply watch and learn how to go about communicating with a person I don't know.

My advisors and classmates say that I am always in good spirits no matter what situation arises. When two members of my CDE team dropped out the day before district competition, it didn't bring me down. I was determined to qualify for state, and I studied even harder that night knowing I was going to have to pull the weight of my team. I am a great team leader as well as member, and I am willing to take charge when needed and listen to other people's opinions and suggestions to better the team. To be a state officer, you need to be a team member and willing to work in any situation. State officers work year ‘round taking on different roles and responsibilities, and I believe I can step up to the plate and take what comes at me.

My high school career has literally revolved around FFA. Camp Couchdaleis where I have met many of myclosest friends and learned how to become a better leader from past state officers. Camp has been my second home for the past four summers. My favorite part about being in FFA is the opportunities it brings. I have traveled to many states that I would have never been to if it wasn't for FFA.I have attended countless hours of camps and conferences such as State Convention, National Convention, Arkansas Leadership Conference, Chapter Presidents Conference, Washington Leadership Conference, and 360 Conference. While attending the Washington Leadership conference, I was able to tour Capitol Hill, see the National Mall, visit the Newseum, and explore the Botanical Gardens. During the most recent state convention, I was a member of the state officer nominating committee and served as the chairman.Theseexperiences convinced me that I need to continue my FFA career.

Arkansas FFA has impacted my life in so many ways. I can now speak in front of a crowd where I wouldn’t have been able to talk on the phone a few years ago. I have made connections with people from all over the country, and I have discovered myself. I want to be one of your state officers so that I can help give you the same opportunities I have had.

I refuse to give up my blue jacket. My jacket has led me to become a better, more-involved person in my community and the state. I have seen the difference FFA has made in my life. I want to see how it impacts you, how it influences you, and what you do with it. Becoming one of your state officers has been my dream since I joined and now has come the time to fulfill that dream.

Sincerely,

Anna Grace Duggan
