SVQ Assessor

ARK Organisational Development (OD) Team

Purpose

The role will deliverand implement a robust, proactive, and comprehensive approach to ARK’s SVQ centre, which supports and develops the skills and knowledge of our managers and staff, demonstrates the impact it has on the business, facilitates sustainable change in our people capacity and capabilities, and embeds a culture of continuous learning.

Responsibilities

Fact Finding and Analysis

  • Manage the implementation of a workforce SVQ strategy, addressing our strategic development priorities.
  • Identify targets linked to outcomes to ensure the effective delivery of SVQ plans at area level to meet SSSC timelines.
  • Contribute to SVQ strategy as a member of ARK’s SVQ team and support SVQ Delivery and Quality Assurance including the delivery of SVQ related training.
  • Assist with the prioritisation of operational training activity atarea and organisational level.
  • Gather facts and information to advise, inform and influence the decision making process from an OD perspective.
  • Assist in setting targets to ensure the effective delivery of SVQ plans at area level.
  • Contribute in the implementation of assessement and verification strategy.
  • Contribute to the Centre’s SVQ Standardisation Meetings.

Innovation and Initiative

  • Embed National Occupational Standards.
  • Develop and support managers as they become SVQ accredited assesors.
  • Ensure that action points agreed with the EV are implemented effectively.
  • Using a range of evaluation tecniques to measure and demonstrate the impact that SVQ’s have on the business.
  • Support managers to identify staff development needs arrising from assessment activity.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Exercise sound judgement in the provision of advice and guidance.
  • Take responsibility for continually developing self in order to maximise personal contribution to the job.
  • Work closely with colleauges in OD and across the organisation to provide appropriate professional expertise.
  • Maintain effective relationships with managers and staff within the Priory and in Care and Support.

Relationships

Internal

  • As part of the OD Team attend meetings and prepare presentations and reports to the team, as required.
  • Attend internal meetings as required.
  • Support and provide guidance to members of the OD team to provide appropriate SVQ and Core training expertise.
  • Work closely with workplace assessors and verifiers across the organisation.
  • Work with individuals and managers during the assessment and verification process to report progress.

External

  • Responsibility for managing key stakeholder relationships.
  • Work with external bodies to ensure ARK is a voice of influence in the development of social care learning and development policy and practice.

Leading and Developing People

  • As an expierenced assessor, support and monitor the work of SVQ Candidiates and the assessment work undertaken by Care and Support managers.
  • Set targets and ensure the effective delivery of SVQ’s at an area level.
  • Ensure all activity is within established policies, practices and procedures.
  • Working with the SVQ Co-ordinator, ensure the effective allocation and monitoring of SVQ activity across ARK .
  • Promote and embed a learning culture within ARK.

Resources

  • Monitoring and providing KPI data to support managers to make decisions and manage their resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Provide support and guidance to workplace assessors.

Impact on Descisions

  • Working with the SVQ Co-ordinator, ensure theappropriate prioritisation of SVQ activity across ARK.
  • Use sound judgement to decide when area SVQ plans need to be supported by additional resources in order to deliver to the required timescale and quality.
  • Monitor the quality and progress of the work across ARK in relation to SVQ activity.
  • Report regularly on SVQactivity against agreed areaand organisational performance indicators, taking responsibility and addressing areas of concern.

Expertise

*Qualifications

SCQF Level 7or above and

The Assessor MUST hold one of the following:

  • L&D9DI Assess workplace competence using direct and indirect methods.
  • A1 Assess candidate performance using a range of methods.
  • any appropriate QCF qualifications and/or units as recognised by SQA

accreditation.

  • D32 Assess candidate performance and D33 Assess candidate using differing sources of evidence.

If not held already, the assessor will be supported to develop one of the following internal quality assurance qualifications:-

  • L&D11 Internally monitor and maintain the quality of workplace assessment.
  • V1 Conduct internal quality assurance of the assessment process

or hold D34 Internally verify the assessment process.

*Where qualifications are not held by internal candidates, ARK will support you to attain these.

Experience

  • Working in a relevant care setting.
  • Assessed candidates through to completion of Social Services and Healthcare Award at Level 2 or above.
  • Planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation of learning activities in a social care setting.

Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of the following as they relate to Social Care:

  • Health and Safety (e.g. First Aid, Fire Safety, Building Security, Food Hygiene, Dealing with Emergencies, Safer Handling).
  • Communication and Record Keeping.
  • Values, National Care Standards and SSSC Code of Practice.
  • Relevant social care/Adult legislation.
  • Relevant social care/Adult theory, Reflective Practice.

As well as the following;

  • Good team player.
  • Excellent training delivery skills.
  • Ability to use information technology including communications and MS Office applications.
