Kelloggsville Public Schools

Powerschool!

Ms. Farkas will be going into every class to talk to the students about grades and credits. This will also include a piece on Powerschool. The students will be shown how to access their grades/homework so they can take more responsibility in managing their education. Students will understand how grades equal credits and how many they need to graduate to the next grade or possibly have to do summer school. Parents also received information on Powerschool earlier in the year. This is another way that parents can stay involved in their child’s education. If you do not have access to the internet, we have daily/weekly progress reports or planners the students can take around to their teachers to find out how they are doing. If you would like them to get started on these, please call 532-1575 and speak to one of the counselors.

Athletic Eligibility

Kelloggsville Middle School takes the privilege of being a student-athlete quite seriously. We expect our student-athletes to make good decisions in the classroom and out. Academic achievement is our first priority. Citizenship runs a close second and is also closely monitored by our teaching and administrative staff. Each student-athlete’s grades and behavior is evaluated weekly. Our staff has the option of marking students ineligible on a weekly eligibility report. They use two marks to assess each student-athlete; warnings and checks. A warning indicates that there is concern while a check means there is a problem either with behavior or a failing grade. The student-athlete may receive no more than two E’s and no more than one citizenship “check” in order to be eligible that next week. Let’s use an example: Week 1 John Doe earns three academic “warnings” and one citizenship “check”. John is eligible for the next week. The next week, John has not improved his grades and earned two academic “checks”. John is ineligible for the following week’s game. Week three John improves his grades but not his behavior and he earns two “checks” for citizenship. John is still ineligible. The fourth week John is checked in one class for academic reasons and one for citizenship. John is now eligible. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Bruce Foster at the High School or Mrs. Townsend at the Middle School.

Internet Safety

Are your children safe while online? Michigan families, especially minors, are becoming inundated with advertisements from alcohol, tobacco, pornography, and gambling marketers through different internet and cell phone inboxes. Thankfully, the State of Michigan offers a free program to stop adult advertisements from reaching e-mails, mobile phones (text messaging ads) and instant messenger IDs. The Michigan Child Protection Registry is a free do-not-contact service for Michigan families and schools and can be located at www.protectmichild.com.

Once again the athletic department will be selling punch card passes for home game admission. Purchase a punch card and you may enter any Kelloggsville event 10 times. Punch cards can also be shared. You can purchase these cards at the main office of any Kelloggsville building or at any home event. Adult punch card - $20, Student punch card - $10.

On Monday, December 15 through Friday, December 19, lost and found items will be on display in the main entrance at school. Students and/or parents are encouraged to claim any items at this time. Items remaining after school on Friday, Dec. 19, will be donated to a worthwhile charity.

Geography Bee

On November 20, ten students at Kelloggsville Middle School participated in the school-wide National Geographic Bee. These students had previously won their classroom bees and were finalists in a preliminary school bee. Students answered questions about states, rivers, countries, and other geographical terms until the competition was narrowed down to two finalists. Sixth grader Luis Ojeda-Hernandez emerged as the school champion and seventh grader Liam Szocinski was the runner-up. Congratulations to all the students who participated!
