Camp opemikon has a wide array of outdoor adventures

For boys & girls ages 5 to 16!

All of our programs are based on Scouts Canada’s Canadian Path. This well-rounded program offers youth an opportunity to experience new things, have more adventures and develop into confident and capable individuals, better prepared for success in the world. Youth take the lead in determining their activities, will help organize ways to do the activities and will collectively reflect on their experience. Along the way, they will develop skills allowing them to complete some of the requirements of the Outdoor Adventure Skills Program.

Campers have a lot of fun discovering new things and experiences they wouldn’t have elsewhere.

Ø  Beaver Program – Ages 5-7 – July 26-28 -- $230 + HST

This is an introductory program to camping for Beavers. Must have at least one full year of Beavers to attend. Partial week camp running Thursday to Saturday that includes hikes, aquatics and basic outdoor skills.

Ø  Cubfield – Ages 8-10 – Jun 30-July 7, July 7-14, July 14-21, & July 21-28 -- $525 + HST

This program will have youth participating in activities together and learning new skills from each other. The older youth will have the opportunity to lead the younger youth along the path to achieving many Outdoor Adventure Skills. Campers will experience a hike to the “Amazon” and an overnight sleep-over at one of our satellite sites. Youth will have the opportunity to choose activities from swimming, archery, nature, boating, low ropes during the day. These program choices will enable youth to achieve a number of skills in the Camping, Trail, Aquatics and Paddling Outdoor Adventure Skills.

Ø  Brownsea – Ages 11-12 – Jun 30-July 7, July 7-14, July 14-21, July 21-28, July 28-Aug 4 & Aug 4-11 - $535 + HST

Youth are provided with the building blocks to enjoy camping through hands-on activities. Develop skills while camping, hiking and canoeing. Ropes courses, a regatta and special full-camp evening activities fill the week. Two night canoe trip on Christie Lake & Farrens Lake will lead to youth experiencing land and water adventures; as well as achieving skills in the areas of Paddling, Aquatics, Trail and Camping Outdoor Adventure Skills to be achieved.

Ø  Troop Outdoor Skills (formerly Campcraft & Paddling) – Ages 12-14 – Jun 30-July 7, July 7-14, July 21-28 & July 28-Aug 4) -- $545 + HST

This program has been developed to combine our Campcraft (ScoutCraft) & Paddling programs. The program will include both land and water based skill building. Introduction to flat-water control skills, pioneering, orienteering, practical day tripping, hiking and fire lighting are a few of the activities that will be covered. A three night hike & paddle trip at nearby Provincial Park. This camp will provide youth with the opportunity to achieve Trail, Camping and Paddling Outdoor Adventure Skills.

Ø  Survival Camp – Ages 13-15 – August 4-11 -- $545 + HST

Are you up for the challenge? Youth will experience a more challenging wilderness program by tenting away from main camp. Youth will work as a team to survive the week by completing challenges to receive amenities. Youth will develop advanced Outdoor skills in camping, paddling and pioneering. Outdoor Adventure Skills that can be achieved are Aquatics, Paddling, Trail, Camping and some Emergency Skills.

Ø  Vertical Skills Camp (formerly Rocks Camp) – Ages 13-15 – July 14-21 -- $555 + HST

Spend the first part of the week climbing McManus Rock to fine tune your climbing skills before heading off-site to Kingston Mills for a multi-night climbing experience. Youth will acquire and develop many skills of the Vertical Outdoor Adventure Skill. No previous experience rock climbing is necessary but is preferred.

Ø  OSL (Outdoor Skills & Leadership) – Ages 14-15 – Jun 30-July 14, July 14-28 & July 28-Aug 11 -- $695 + HST

OSL is a challenging two-week leadership development program that concentrates on refining outdoor skills. One week is devoted to land based skills such as backpacking and light weight camping including a two night hiking trip. Week two shifts to water based skills and includes a three night canoe trip. The two weeks are tied together with an overnight survival camp. A pre-requisite for anyone wanting to register for CIT or Seneca. Paddling, Trail, Camping, Emergency Skills are some of the Outdoor Adventure Skills that youth may achieve.

Ø  Seneca – Ages 14-15 – July 28-Aug 11 -- $1080 + HST

Are you up for the challenge of a ten day canoe trip? Want to travel like a Voyageur? Come test your paddling and portaging skills as you explore the woods and lakes of Algonquin Park. EXPERIENCED paddlers only. This trip includes 16km to 20 km of paddling and portaging each day. Not for the faint of heart! Must be in good physical shape and ready to refine your outdoor skills while enjoying being in the wild regardless of weather! More advanced Outdoor Adventure Skills in Paddling, Trail, Camping and Emergency Skills can be achieved.

Ø  CIT (Counselor in Training) – Age 15 – Jun 30-July 14, July 7-21, & July 14-28 -- $595 + HST

This two week program provides training to youth interested in obtaining Camp Counselor positions in future years or in enhancing their leadership skills. Activities concentrate on development of team building skills, proper methods of discipline, conflict resolution and personal goal setting. Week one includes intensive leadership training, followed by week two placement in appropriate program or service area to apply new found knowledge.

If your child is not a member of Scouts Canada, please add $50 for Administration Fee to the price listed beside the program.

1.  You may also submit registration forms together with registration fee by fax, email, Canada Post or in person to the Scouting Service Centre at the address and numbers listed below.

2.  Fees are listed in the Opemikon Brochure and online. Non Scouting Members are welcome to experience residential camping at Camp Opemikon. An additional $50.00 is to be added to the camping fee to cover administration costs.

This fee must be paid if your child is not a currently registered member of Scouts Canada and we reserve the right to collect this fee upon verification through Scouts Canada’s database.

3.  Transportation will be provided at no extra cost from Scouts Headquarters at 1345 Baseline in Ottawa. You must indicate during registration if transportation is required.
