Are you a community or other not-for-profit group with a minibus?

Community transport is safe, accessible, cost-effective and flexible not-for-profit transport run by the community for the community.

In Oxfordshire, many voluntary and community groups with a minibus of their own won’t see themselves as offering community transport, but simply as helping their members or clients get around.

Because of this, groups such as sports clubs, faith organisations, senior citizen’s or young people’s groups, colleges and schools may be missing out on specialist advice, good deals and other help on offer.

We also know that community transport and other voluntary groups would welcome the opportunity to be able to hire or share more minibuses in their local area.

Setting up a minibus brokerage scheme could be an option. Any scheme would be properly organised, as in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, and would help groups generate a little bit of an income.

Oxfordshire County Council received a one-off grant from the Department for Transport to develop community transport in the county. We are running this audit with the support of the Oxfordshire Stronger Communities Alliance (OSCA).
