- graduate between January and June of 2018,
- are U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents,
- attend, public, parochial, or charter schools, as well as those who are home-schooled,
- CTE scholar applicants must be participants in a career and technical education program (i.e., Healthcare, IT, Advanced Manufacturing, STEM, and Transportation).
- Each school may only nominate one general applicant and one CTE applicant.

Lexus Eco Challenge / 6–12th grade /
- Teams of 5–10 students tackle environmental issues related to land and water in the contest's first challenge.
- The Teacher Advisor (a full-time teacher employed by the school, not a volunteer) selects a team of 5–10 students.
- Students create a PowerPoint presentation using the Action Plan template to describe how they can help solve their selected environmental issue.
