Demand a Moratorium on Smart Meters!
Smart Meters are slated for installation on every home and business in California. These wireless devices allow PG&E to track and control your gas & electric utility usage.
· TURN, the Utility Reform Network, a statewide 15,000 member coalition calls these meters a “dumb idea”. Customers are paying for this - 2.2 billion dollars so far.
· TURN, State Senator Dean Florez, 5th District Supervisor Efren Carrillo, thecities of Sebastopol, Cotati, Fairfax, Camp Meekerand the EMF Safety Network call for a moratorium on Smart Meters.
· Media reports and consumer complaints include security and privacy concerns, skyrocketing utility bills, interference problems, health and environmental impacts, fire hazards and lost jobs. PG&E admits to over 43,000 problems.
· Smart Meters, marketed as green and sustainable, don’t run backwards, and are incompatible with solar installations.
· PG&E reports electric failure rates of over 1 in 100 and interference problems with GFI’s and AFCI’s - devices designed to protect against electrical shock and fires.
· The electric Smart Meter has two radiofrequency radiation (RF) transmitters. One signal is sent directly into your home for the HAN (Home Area Network), which you are expected to purchase and install. The other is sent to a neighborhood data collector, located on a pole, or lamppost, and in some cases on a home. Smart Meter Mesh Networks emit RF frequently, throughout the day and night.
· This is electrosmog. Exposure to electrosmog has been documented to have major biological effects on living tissue: DNA breaks, sleep disturbance, memory loss, headaches, chest pain, heart palpitations, cell stress, premature aging, learning impairment, fatigue, reduction in melatonin secretion and cancers.
· The exponential increase in the use of wireless technologies presents serious public health risks. Children, pregnant women, seniors, people with EMF sensitivity, medical implants and compromised immune systems are most vulnerable.
· PG&E’s claims of health safety are based on inadequate FCC safety standards. At this time you cannot opt out.
