Magnet Program
Discussion (The who, what, when, where and how of the Best Practice, e.g., components of the function, organization (staff responsibilities, command and control), resources needed (money, people, supplies, transportation, and equipment) timeline from planning to completion, etc.)(PLEASE LIMIT YOUR DISCUSSION TO ONE PAGE IF POSSIBLE):
Beginning in 1977, and still existing today, the magnet program that allows students from schools that lack a JROTC program started with magnets from other schools, including Damien, Kamehameha, Maryknoll, Saint Francis, and even home school. The Magnet program is beneficial to both Punahou and Magnet Cadets.
Magnet cadets are able to participate in everything Punahou cadets do, such as class, drill, special teams, community service/service learning, and more. Magnet cadets are able to attend camps (such as leadership and JCLC), special events (such as dining in and military ball), special teams (such as Drill team, Raiders, Cyber Patriot, and JLAB), and more, alongside Punahou cadets. As a result, it allows Punahou and Magnet cadets to build cammaderie with each other.
Our budget is made up of funds from our school and the federal government. Our JROTC program also hosts a variety of fundraisers to raise money. For example, we sell shave ice at fundraisers, as well as entertainment books to raise funds. The funds cover the various activities that magnet cadets participate in. For example, transportation is required for drill competitions that both magnet and Punahou cadets participate eand the costs are covered by the money.
The presence of the Magnet program is beneficial not only to Magnet Cadets but also to Punahou Cadets. Through their interactions with students from the opposite group, cadets learn critical social skills and leadership skills. Magnet Cadets also offer a variety of different viewpoints and opinions which often leads to cadets discussing important issues and utilizing critical thinking skills. Magnets also help to strengthen the Battalion's connections to the local community. The program also presents a few challenges, which are ultimately beneficial to the development of cadets, the resoultion of which helps cadets to grow as leaders and as citizens.
Ultimately, the Magnet program is a vital and important part of Punahou School's JROTC program. The program offers a plethora of benefits to the cadets within the battalion.

Your Team must also prepare a presentation (Power Point or other presentation program) on this best practice. Your team will give your best practice presentation at the Unit Best Practices Forum, so be prepared.
