High Tech High North County (HTHNC) identified the following nine (9) goals in its LCAP for the 2015-2016 school year:

  1. Student Experience: Students will report a positive experience as measured by a school experience survey given annually.
  2. College Applications: All eligible students will apply to at least one four-year public college or university.
  3. Student Attendance: Student attendance will be at or above 96%.
  4. Internships: All 11th graders and 12th graders will participate in authentic internships. 12th grade student internship participation will be tracked.
  5. UC/CSU Standards: All students (except students on modified curriculum) will graduate having met the UC/CSU admission standards.
  6. School Culture: The amount of out-of-school suspensions will decrease as a result of restorative practices and social-emotional work with students.
  7. Common Core: Student projects will be informed by the Common Core Standards. Teachers will have access to necessary resources and professional learning in order to implement the standards effectively.
  8. Parent Engagement: Parents will be involved in their child's events at school. Count parents/guardians attending SLCs, attending at least exhibition, and number of new students where home visit was completed.
  9. Teacher Credentials: Maintain 100% fully credentialed, appropriately assigned teachers.

The following is a summary update on HTHNC’s 2015-2016 LCAP Goals as of December 8, 2015:

  1. Student Experience: Students will take the YouthTruth survey in January 2016. Survey results will be analyzed by staff and then debriefed with students and parents.
  2. College Applications: The UC and CSU application deadline was November 30, 2015. Currently, 94% of seniors have reported that they have applied to at least one four-year college. This is up from 89% last year.
  3. Student Attendance: Student attendance is currently at 96.8%
  4. Internships: 50% of our senior class members just completed their internships at various sites throughout San Diego County.
  5. UC/CSU Standards: All seniors (except two students on modified curriculum) are on target to graduate having met the UC/CSU admission standards.
  6. School Culture: Suspensions have decreased substantially this semester due to our work with restorative practices. We have suspended 3 students so far this year.
  7. Common Core: All projects are aligned with the Common Core State Standards. In addition, science projects are incorporating the Next Generation Science Standards.
  8. Parent Engagement: 99.5% (480/482) parents were involved in our Fall Student Led Conferences. 77.6% (90/116) home visits are currently completed for our new students.
  9. Teacher Credentials: All HTHNC teachers hold valid California teaching credentials. Five teachers are completing the state requirements to add a second content area authorization for their teaching assignment.

The following is a summary of observations informing practice to date:

At the beginning of this school year, we hired an additional staff member to support our college application process. This has enabled us to track and support our seniors throughout the entire process. This, along with substantial professional development dedicated to the college application process, has led to a boost in college applications for our seniors (94%).

We continue to work on increasing our attendance rate by refining our process to identify and support students with chronic attendance issues. These refinements have led to considerable improvement in overall attendance (up 3% points from 3 years ago) and a significant decrease in chronic absenteeism.

One area of significant improvement has been our reduction in the number of suspensions. The Director, Dean of Students and two teachers attended a conference centered around restorative practices early this fall. These practices have become a significant structure within our school. Many of the practices were previously incorporated into the culture of our school, but this training has enabled us to be more intentional regarding their use.

Finally, we have continued to reach out to parents to incorporate them fully into their child’s education. Student Led conferences were attended by over 99% of families and over 75% of our incoming families were given a personal visit to the family’s home by a staff member.

The following is a summary of the plans for the next semester:

In terms of the college application process, we are planning on incorporating support with the financial aid application process. This will be a new area of support for our students in the college application process. In terms of student culture, we are looking forward to developing our work on restorative practices. We are committed to these practices becoming a significant component of the culture of our school. Finally, in terms of familial engagement, we will work to integrate all families into the many components of our school, through Presentations of Learning (POLs), exhibition, and a second round of student led conferences.
