Purpose of the role

To promote awareness of higher education in general, and the University of Brighton in particular, amongst potential students in order to recruit students to the University of Brighton and to widen participation of under-represented groups in HE.

Main areas of responsibility:

·  To work closely with academic colleagues to develop a programme of outreach activities;

·  To coordinate the organisation and delivery of outreach activity and projects;

·  To liaise with school and college contacts to develop a sustained programme of outreach activities delivered both at the university and in-school;

·  To organise, participate in and deliver residential events which will require overnight attendance;

·  To develop and implement arrangements for monitoring and evaluation of outreach activity and projects;

·  To monitor financial expenditure of outreach projects.

Essential criteria
Knowledge / ·  Experience of working with secondary school pupils and college students;
·  A clear understanding of the UK higher education system;
·  Experience of issues facing under-represented groups / non-traditional learners;
·  Experience of delivering presentations to pupils / students;
·  Experience of co-ordinating events / projects;
·  Experience of delivering subject specific outreach;
·  A clear understanding of the UK higher education system. / A

Other requirements / ·  Able to use VDU / display screen equipment extensively, and lift, carry and set up exhibition and presentation equipment, according to health and safety guidelines;
·  Ability to work unsocial hours / out of office hours: the role includes some work in the evenings and at weekends. There are also requirements for occasional overnight attendance at residential events.
·  Transport: ability to travel to a variety of external sites within reasonable timescales and transport materials for activities. / A
Desirable / ·  Experience of working with primary pupils;
·  First-hand experience of studying at university;
·  Knowledge of the Arts and Humanities;
·  Knowledge of the operation of universities or other large multi departmental organisation;
·  Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding requirement.

·  Any appointment is generally made at the bottom of the salary range for the grade dependent upon experience and previous salary.

·  This is a full time post and is permanent

·  Annual leave entitlements are shown in the table below and increase after 5 years’ service. In addition, to the eight Bank Holidays, there are university discretionary days between Christmas and New Year. All leave, including bank holidays and discretionary days, is pro-rated for part time employees.
