APPROXIMATE COST OF ATTENDANCE FOR HONOURS, MASTER’S AND DOCTORAL DEGREES AT UCT IN 2014
The Tables below reflectthe approximate cost of attendance for local, SADC and international postgraduate students in 2014. The information below is partially sourced from the 2014 UCT Handbook No. 12 - Student Fees. It should be noted that the Tuition Fees range broadly. Please consult the UCT 2014 Student Fees Handbook No. 12 for exact tuition fee costs. This information is available on the UCT Website at URL:
The Tables include a great deal of information and the following should be noted and referred to before and during consultation with the Tables
- The Tables must reflect the Local Tuition Fee, which applies to all students.
- For students from the SADC areas, the local Tuition/Course Fees, as well as theSADC Administration Fee of R3000 apply. NoInternational Tuition Fee is applicable.
- For students from other countries in Africa (Non SADC) who will register forHonours and Master’s Coursework or Course-work and dissertation degrees, the Local Tuition/Course Fees, theInternational Africa (Non SADC)Tuition Fee and the International Administration Feeapply.
- For students from other countries in Africa (Non SADC) who will register for the master’s research and Doctoral degrees, the Local Tuition/Course Fees and the International (Non SADC) Administration Fee apply.
- For students from other parts of the world (outside of Africa), who will register for Honours and Master’s Coursework or Course-work and dissertation degrees, the Local Tuition/Course Fees, the International Tuition Fee and the International Administration Fee apply.
- For students from other parts of the world (outside of Africa)who will register for the master’s research only and Doctoral degrees, the Local Tuition/Course Fees and the International Administration Fee apply.
- Costs for accommodation (rent),food, books, and livingare estimates based on the recommendation in the Fees Booklet, but Tier 3 postgraduate residence fees may exceed the amounts given.
- The line-item ‘Books & stationery, etc’ is escalated to include the student’s research costs (such as costs relating to fieldwork) in the case of research Master’s and Doctoral students.
- Even though entertainment and/or ‘pocket-money’ costs are included, these are kept to the minimum.
- At no time does the University undertake to provide for the support of students’ dependents. However, the seniority (and a more mature life-style) of Doctoral students is recognised – therefore the estimated cost of living is set slightly higher than that of Honours and Master’s.
- Travel to and from the home-country must be factored in separately if this is to be borne by the sponsor.
