Appointment of Early Years Teacher, Sept. 2015 – Background Information

The School

We are a primary academy situated on the outskirts of Gloucester, serving the mixed catchment of Quedgeley and Hardwicke. The present school was built in 1993 and benefits from a modern, purpose-built design. It has excellent facilities including large Hall, ICT Suite, Resource Rooms and extensive well equipped and pleasant school grounds. Currently there are 410 pupils on roll, divided into 14 classes – 2 for each year group. Pupils’ attainment on entry represents the full ability range and some 13% of pupils have been registered as having special educational needs. Standards at the school are high. In 2014 100% of children in Key Stage 2 achieved level 4 or above in English and also 100% in maths. In Key Stage 1, 81% of children achieved level 2B or above in reading, 72% in writing and 72% in maths. Pupils at age 11 move on to a range of secondary schools including Severn Vale School (Quedgeley), Ribston Hall School (Gloucester), Crypt School (Gloucester), St Peters’ High School (Gloucester), Marling School (Stroud) and Stroud Girls High School (Stroud).

The children are taught by a dedicated and hard-working team of around fifty staff, of which eighteen are full-time or part-time teachers. In addition to delivering the curriculum, the staff offer a wide range of after school activities including football, rugby, netball, hockey, cricket, orchestra, choir, gymnastics, art, and recorders.

The ethos of the school is one where children and staff work together in a lively and stimulating environment which is underpinned by Christian values . The staff are well supported by a committed and professionally-run Governing Body and an enthusiastic and hard-working Parent Teacher Association who annually raise significant funds for the school as well as providing social activities.

Our last OFSTED report in April 2013 judged the school to be ‘Good’ overall, and recognized that “ . . . pupils make good progress and achieve well from their different starting points.”

As a member of the Diocese of Gloucester Academy Trust, we believe in the importance of collaboration with other schools and can offer an exciting range of CPD opportunities.
