Appointment and Re-appointment of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority

The Chief Executive has re-appointed the incumbent Chairman of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA), Mr Charles Lee Yeh-kwong, for a further term of two years from March 17, 2005.

At the same time, the Financial Secretary, in exercise of the authority delegated by the Chief Executive, has re-appointed five incumbent Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) for a further term of two years starting from March 17, 2005. They are Mr Lee Kai-ming, the Hon Tam Yiu-chung, Mr Kenneth Ting Woo-shou, the Secretary for Economic Development and Labour and the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury. Another incumbent NED, Mr Edward Chan King-sang SC, was appointed in May 2004 for a term till March 2006.

Four new NEDs have also been appointed for a term of two years starting from March 17, 2005. They are Mr Leo Kung Lin-cheng, Mrs Angelina Lee Wong Pui-ling, Mr David Sun Tak-kei and the Hon Wong Ting-kwong.

"The Government is confident that MPFA will continue to carry out its tasks effectively and efficiently under the able leadership of its Chairman and with the expertise and experience of its members," a Government spokesman said today (March 16).

"We would like to thank the four outgoing members, Mr Eddy Fong Ching, Dr the Hon David Li Kwok-po, Dr the Hon Lui Ming-wah and Ms Anna Wu Hung-yuk for the invaluable contributions they have made to the work of MPFA over the past few years," the spokesman added.

Launched in 2000, the Mandatory Provident Fund System has been operating smoothly. MPFA is the statutory body responsible for the regulation of the system. It also regulates occupational retirement schemes established by employers on a voluntary basis.
