APPLICATION INSTRUCTION FOR THE AFGHAN JUNJIOR FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The U.S. Embassy Kabul is pleased to announce the 2016 Afghan Junior Faculty Development Program (AJFDP) for citizens of Afghanistan to participate in a two-month professional development program in the United States.The program is designed to enhance and broaden the professional skills of Afghan junior faculty in various fields of study, to provide insight into the American system of higher education, and to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of Afghanistan. All program costs will be included in the scholarship, including lodging, meals, supplemental health and accident benefits, a book and materials allowance, and travel costs to program location.

Afghan Junior Faculty Development Program (AJFDP) Checklist

Application Form /
  • Follow the instructions carefully and answer all questions completely.
  • Each part of the application form must be completed in English. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Citizenship Requirement /
  • Must be Afghan citizens, currently residing in Afghanistan.
  • Dual citizens or permanent residents of other countries are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a pending immigrant visa application, including SIV, are not eligible.
  • The AJFDPin Afghanistan provides support for the recipient ONLY. Dependents, including spouse (Maharam), cannot accompany the recipient.

Work Experience Requirement /
  • Applicants for the AFJDP must be currently employed full-time as junior level faculty at a public or private higher education institution in Afghanistan.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of one year and maximum of 5 years of teaching experience;

Personal Identity /
  • Applicant must enter his/her personal information accurately as it appears (or will appear) on his/her passport.

English Language Requirement /
  • A TOEFLiBT® score is a prerequisite when applying for the AJFDP.
  • The candidate must have a valid TOEFLiBT score and include a screenshot of their highest score in the application package.
  • All nominated candidates who passed the interview may be required toretake the TOEFLiBT. Those candidates who get the highest scores in the TOEFL iBTwill be selected as finalists.

Personal Statement /
  • A narrative statement describing how you have achieved your current goals (Page 6 of the Application).
  • Highlight your strengths and address any inconsistencies or perceived weaknesses.

Professional Objective Statement /
  • A clearly articulated Professional Objective Statement is an important component of your Application Form (Page 7 of the Application).

Resume/CV /
  • An up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV) or resume is required and is part of the application package.

Letters of Recommendation /
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation from academic institutions and work supervisors are required.
  • Letters of recommendation must NOT be written by applicant’s relatives or friends.
  • All recommendation letters must be scanned and included in the application package.

Attested Diploma(s) and Transcripts Requirement /
  • Applicants must have a minimum of a four-year bachelor’s degree along with transcripts of 8 full semesters;
  • All documents (diplomas and transcripts) must be attested by the Afghan Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

Translation of documents /
  • All documents, including diploma, transcripts, and recommendation letters, must be translated by an official translation company.

Not required /
  • A sample of English writing is not a pre requisite, but the applicants may attach a short research paper, published article, paper.Standardized tests, such asGREand GMAT are not required.
