Student as Researchers Scheme

Thank you for your interest in the Students as Researchers Scheme. We would like you to have the best possible chance of gaining a student researcher position, so these guidence notes are here to help you through the application form.

General Information

  • You are advised to read the project information carefully before completing an application form for each project you are interested in.
  • CVs alone are not accepted in place of an application form but you may wish to include one as additional supporting information (this should be submitted with the application form).
  • All sections of the application form must be completed (please note that the answer boxes can be expanded). Incomplete applications will not be accepted and you will not be invited for an interview.
  • If you are interested in applying for more than one project, an applicationform must be submitted seperately for each project you are applying for. Please note that if you do apply for more than one project you should tailor each application to the relevant project.
  • All applications must be submitted via email to by the deadline stipluted on the advert. Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted.
  • You will be notified soon after the closing date via email if you have been invited to attend an interview (please ensure you include your University email address and that you regulary check this). You will be required to confirm your attendence via email.
  • Please note that you will not be able to request a change of interview date and or time unless there is exceptional circumstances i.e. placement activity or another interview. An alternative will only be offered if it is possible to do so.
  • Please note that your programme/course leader may be contacted for a reference before appointment (please discuss your application with your programme/course leader before submitting an application).

The Application Form

Personal Details

  • Please complete this section fully. It is essential that you provide us with a valid and accurate email address and telephone as, wherever possible, all correspondence will be via email and telephone (please note that if you are appointed, your contract will be hard copy).

Section A

  • As well as outlining your previous experience specific to the project you are applying for, please make sure that you address specific criteria/skills required which are outlined in the project advert (not all projects will have specific criteria included in the advert).

Section B

  • Briefly outline any research experience or training you have (including what kind) as well as your interest in the research process. This section may include information from your course and other research related experience gained.

Section C

  • Time management is an important skill for student researchers and this section of the form is an opportunity for you to provide an example for the panel.

Section D

  • As you can imagine, student researchers have to work independently on a regular basis, please provide an example here illustrating when you have done this.

Section E

  • Remember writing the application already provides some evidence of your written communication skills so you might want to proof read your application before submitting. This section also gives you the opportunity to provide brief information and or examples of your skills in this area.

Section F

  • The panel will be interested in your medium and long term goal so they can decide whether the experience will fit in with your career aims and aspirations.

Declaration

  • As you will be submitting the application form electronically via email, typing your name and date in this section will be accepted as confirmation.
