Procedure forConsideration of Mitigation/Late

Submission – Postgraduate Programmes2016/2017

For TaughtProgrammes

Thisformmustbecompleted fully(electronically preferred) ordertoensureyourcircumstancesareabletobeconsideredingoodtimebytheMitigation Committee. Please remember, mitigation is usually applied where serious and unexpectedcircumstanceshavehad a disruptive impact on your studies, and are substantiatedbyindependent supportingevidence. This formhastwopurposes:

1)Notificationforgoodcause forlateness tosupportlatesubmissionprocedures(thatis,Extensions).

2)Notificationofmitigatingcircumstances tothe Mitigation Committee torequest compensationacrossa levelofstudy/academicyearetc.

For1)thisformmustaccompanysubmission,orbecompletedassoonaspossiblethereafter. Youmayalsorequestanextensioninadvanceofa courseworkdeadline byhanding thisformintothe Programme Administrator with supporting evidence.Ifan extension isgranted thenyourworkwillbemarked as normal.

The University penalty for assessed work submitted up to two weeks late without approved mitigation is a maximum capped mark of 50%. Assessed work submitted more than two weeks beyond a submission date without mitigation should receive a mark of zero.

No individual member of staff can grant an extension. Decisions are made by the Mitigation Committee and communicated via the Programme Administrator. If an extension is granted then the relevant systems (e.g. Turnitin and/or e-BART) are updated accordingly.

The remit of the mitigation committee is as follows:

1. Consider in the light of relevant supporting evidence claims for granting extension of the submission date for assessed work

2. Evaluate claims of Mitigating Circumstances received by the Programme

3. Consider applications for deferral.
